Why no Nurburgring lap times?

They sent the wagon around and bragged about it but we’re expected to believe the sedan didn’t make the trip? This is supposed to be the best handling sedan from MB/AMG yet so I’m surprised...or maybe disappointed not to hear anything. Especially with the likes of Alfa Romeo and Jaguar both back in the performance/handling game in a big way.

I suppose there's no point until the new M5 goes 'round. I don't think the point of these cars are Nurburgring lap times to be honest, which is why MB aren't in much of a rush. The nurburgring lap-times are irrelevant to most buyers. Once the M5 goes 'round MB will post a laptime if it's quicker, just to *****-wave.

The wagon was sent around by a GER car mag... not MB. I'd expect the sedan should be good for 15sec better time, but even that wagon time of 7:45 could probably be beat if you watch the video of the run. While the driver was a former pro, he didn't exactly have the cleanest run possible. So perhaps on an ideal day a stock 63 sedan should post in the 7:20s?

I imagine that a head-to-head will be done with the M5 and AMG on the ring...

With previous generations I’d agree, there’s no point. In the past these sedans were never intended to be the best handling...but ANG’s intentions seem to have changed with the W213. And let’s face it, Nur times are the benchmark if a manufacturer is going after that category.

There are a lot of videos of the car being run on the 'ring over the past year or two.

Many of the mfrs set up shop at the ring to do test and development. I would imagine Mercedes knows exactly what time the car can do.

I'll admit, I am curious. But perhaps in the same vein as was suggested in an earlier post, Mercedes is not releasing the info so as not to give BMW a target.

Get a proper pro like Sabine Schmitz behind the wheel of the E63 and I'd make a 7:30/7:20 market on the stock lap time. I bet the M5 & the E63 will run within 10sec of each other too.
I'm looking forward to the next AMG track day. This time I hope they let us run laps in the E63. Last time the E63 was just used for braking distance drills. SLS was the lap car, but that was fine with me!

I also agree that MB knows exactly what this car can do and trying not to give BMW a benchmark could be a possibility. But considering that both Alfa and Jag both recently moved that benchmark, I’m wondering if that’s really the case.

My conspiracy theory is that after Alfa set the new sedan record MB and Jag went after it. Jag ran their car a little while ago but was waiting for MB to release their time so they could one-up them. MB caught wind of the Jag’s time and decided to just keep their mouths shut because the Jag was quicker.

To be fair, the Jag isn't exactly a normal car. Roll cage, rear seats removed, and ridiculously limited. Also, about £50k steeper than the E63S. I doubt they consider it competition.

I agree and don’t even think the Giulia is direct competition but it is what it is I guess...
