Two RS versions, a “base” with 650hp and a hybrid borrowed from the Panamera with 700hp!

It's a freakin' arms race, it really is. I am shocked at how dangerous I am driving 600 hp in my E63, I don't want to think of what a 700+hp RS7 would be like.

I’m sure the Audi owner thinks the same way and we all know that tune vs tune and the Audi will spank the AMG...just like it has for the last 5 years. I would also bet there will be updates to the Quattro system so we can’t make too many assumptions there. Hell, the new RS3 already spanks the new E63 in acceleration once aftermarket is involved.

Ill speak from ownership of both and now both are tuned... Lets not forget the M177 twin scroll is new to market and we are not seeing the best of the best when it comes to tunes while the RS7 has been out for 4 years. Here is what I posted in my own thread about the two cars tune vs tune. Outside of actually getting someone to run me with one of the car, I used my experience on the same roads and done this with many cars over the past 12 years where I live (30 cars or so). So while not empirical, its still meaningful in real world feel:
A quick follow up to my short ownership with the car:
Ill do a quick comparo to the tuned RS7 I have (my E63S is tuned too).
Clearly the gains in the tune on the RS7 are greater thru the usable rpm ranges and even peak. Im not sure if this is just a time thing where the tuners have more work to do to untap the M177 engine in the E63S.
Launch: It would be a very close race here. Both cars grip and go and the tq in the RS7 is felt just a bit more but tq is deceiving and not the absolute in speed definition. I would guess both cars are sub 3 seconds to 60 in repetitive conditions. Stock vs stock the cars are rather evenly matched.
Rolling Speed: This is the tricky one as the RS7 Tq curve is as flat as a woman with 32A's. So while the speed grows and the tq pulls- its probably barely faster than my E63S but only because of the net numbers being higher in hp/tq post tune. Stock vs stock the E63S will pull the RS7 no problem. The MCT 9 Speed is more efficient than the ZF8 and the data/tests prove as such.
Handling: Tune or not the E63S is the better car here. The weights are similar but the feel of the E63S, at times, feels like my GTS. Its very planted and firm for its weight and there is minimal understeer in higher speed turns and bends. Its more of sports sedan with luxury while the RS7 is more of a GT cruiser. I can enter and leave turns at higher speeds on the same roads with the E. The confidence factor is here where the weight is not felt (as much) Again the proof is the tests and I back those up with my personal thoughts.
I love driving both after parking the other. They both have different dynamics tuned; the RS7 is brutal with heavy tq thrusts and pulls while the E63S (still torquey) uses its more effective hp in the higher rpm range to accelerate. There are alot of RS7's pulling higher 10's with tune only on 93 octane and the E63S is just getting started but I do think the trap speed on the RS7 at the quarter will be just a small amount faster. How the cars would fare past that is a crap shoot with maybe the E pulling beyond by a nose.

I hear you... its subjective and how one uses their cars. This is my 2nd RS7 and with a tune, its the best freeway cruiser Ive got right now but its missing a lot in the handling department but again, thats not why I have it. Both my RS7's were tuned and are ending their cycles (I had a 14 and now a 17) and they are great daily GT cars and just pull and pull. Its clear based on tune only numbers that the RS7 is a formidable opponent in a straight line or freeway style driving. I applaud you for taking that E63S Estate out in the canyons and brutalizing it.
Oh I had a 2012 E63S Estate- tuned and it was bad *** but the chassis and suspension set up are clearly not as good as the W213 version.

Because AoA doesn't think they will sell enough to merit the added expenses of DOT approvals. I have called them many times over the last 10yr and arrived in the same spot: not intention whatsoever to import the RS6 Avant or RS4 Avant. There was some firm in Arizona that was getting some into the States as 'show cars' or something, but it is NOT worth the expense. I'm also told there was some 1x lifetime vehicle import exemption, but again I never pursued after getting into my first AMG.

Actually it looks like the RS4 or RS6 will be coming to the US after all...

If you look at a VW, the interior plastics and trim is incredibly cheap and flimsy. The reason is that the VW can't be nicer than the Audi interior. So if you compare a VW interior to a KIA or Chevy interior, the KIA or Chevy is nicer.
With Audi you have the same issue. They can't be better than Porsche, so that's why whereas before the Porsche merger their interiors were class leading, now Mercedes and BMW have better interiors.
