Leather Seat Cover Coming Away From Seat?

Hi all,

Just noticed on the front driver and passenger seats, on the side of the both seats (the sides nearest to the centre console) there is a strip of material attached to a long flat piece of plastic. This plastic strip is attached to the leather seat and when I lift it, the seat comes away revealing the yellow foam underneath.

I can’t seem to work out what it connects to. Do you stretch it and fold it under the seat or is there some special clip it attaches to. It’s in both the driver and passenger seats.

Anyone had this issue and know how to fix? Is it a case of taking it to the dealer? Is this a warranty fix?

I don’t know what that is but I’ve had a similar problem. There is foam popping out from under the passenger seat when the thigh bolster is extended. I haven’t worried much about it and will get them to look at it when it goes in for service next time. But I bet they will just do what the sales advisor did right after we bought the car and I had trouble getting my daughter’s car seat locked into the isofix anchor points. Mercedes had insulation covering the little metal bars inside the isofix points after you removed the covers and the SA just took a pocket knife and cut it out. Not exactly what I wanted to see on done my new 100k+ car but I’m sure they do worse things to fix stuff. (Like using a zip tie to fix a set belt recall on the new GLE).
But to answer your question, as long as the car is under warranty it should be a warranty fix.

Haha, the pocket knife and zip tie fix made me chuckle. Comedy aside, it’s shocking to see the quality of MB dealerships...

Yeah, I have noticed that the foam is sticking out of the bottom of my driver seat with the thigh bolster extended as well. Weird. Guess I’ll have to take it to Merc. I only just got the car back after a faulty door control module . They did fix that under warranty too. The car is spending more time in the shop than on the road

Yeap. Some of MB “fixes” are a little extreme and I wasn’t kidding about the “zip tie.”

Zip tie fix

Bump

Having the same issue on my 2019 e63s.
the plastic trim is supposed to hook onto bottom of the seat frame, but it seems like the darn thing comes off too easy. I already had to reinstall the thing 3 times now. I think they made the fabric too short.

There's a plastic "clip" that runs the length of the fabric and engages a metal flange. You (or the dealer) just have to pull down hard on the fabric, rotate the "clip/trough" to point up and engage the metal strip. It's meant to come off for maintenance of the seat internals but it comes undone too easily.

Supposedly my dealership fixed the clips but shortly after that they popped right back off. I’ve just given up on that small tidbit and thankful it’s a much better car than my GLE.
