My car has been "complete" for a few weeks now, so my dealer called up to MB distribution to dig around a bit for some answers as to why it's still sitting around completed. Here's the text I just received:
"Apparently just waiting on a software update. He didn’t have an eta on your car specifically but others that are waiting for the same thing are looking like the end of the month, so I’m going to guess we’re looking at nov delivery. I wonder if it’s an emissions or safety thing that we wouldn’t be able to retail the car without it being done."
Ugh...frustrating because based on the completion date, I should have had the car around now. So I guess I wouldn't bother making any plans until your car is confirmed to be on a boat.

MY assumption is that they wrote the software to expect certain modules and ECUs that aren't present with some of the part omissions and chip shortages and they have to rewrite portions to ignore their absence instead of throwing up error codes, CELs, and other bugs. Given how complex their systems have gotten, omitting certain aspects or writing around missing parts has likely introduced a good number of bugs that weren't there before. But who knows.

I might swap my steels for CCBs once the rotors and pads need replacing, but for right now--especially with the black wheels--I think I'll be fine with the steels. That said, really odd that your car, of all the cars, is being held back... did you spec anything else that might be delaying it?

My previous wagon had steels and they’re great brakes, perform better than most Ive ever experienced really. The brake dust is annoying but that’s easily remedied with a pad swap.
Ha, I wouldn’t call that a stripper, quite a few more options than my black wagon had. Looks like a nice build. Only things Id change are the headliner, silver seatbelts, and rear airbags—all minor. CCB’s of course, but I think you’ll be surprised by the steels, just swap out the pads to something lower dust if that bothers you.
Well the situation here in Canada doesn't seem as bad. After checking the dealers website across the country a couple of weeks ago I had found 1 E63 Wagon available. So I contacted the dealer but was quickly told they would not sell to me as I don't live in that province. I was also told they are still building 2021's and that some may either be unspoken for or cancelled orders because the client got tired of waiting. This week i called almost every dealer in my province and was able to scrap up a minimum of 4 that are inbound or will be shortly. Nobody is asking over MSRP but the dealer for the one that was my first choice wants to add ceramic coating, 4 year service, paint and rim protection and other addons that I am not interested in. So second choice was a matte finished unit with the CCB option ( the only one of the 4 that had this) and no extra addons so really puts this car close to the out the door price of my first choice. Put a deposit on it yesterday and will find out more on Monday. If this one fails I will go to choice number 3 or try to get the dealer with my first choice to remove some of the addons as i do have other choices right now. I did notice that on one of the available cars the price for the premium package has increased by $1600 as it must be a really late build that received a price increase.
Maybe done with AMG altogether and buying a 2022 Panamera Turbo S Sport Turismo. Can't take dealer games.
Also considering basic wagon. I would've bought one already but trying to get over all that plastic cladding. Probably will rule it out or go black.
Wait I thought your wagon was on a boat headed your way?? Changing your mind again? The Panny Sport Turismo is a great car. A family member has one and I like driving it, but not as exciting as the wagon, although it’s not a Turbo S.
