Talking E63s - Wheel Upgrade (HRE Classic 300)

Hey all, back again with an update on my '18 E63s. Sure, the 5-spoke 20" wheels are cool and all, but I wanted a bit of a unique look, so I decided to shop around HRE and landed on the Classic 300 wheels. Here are the specs:

Color: Brushed Dark Clear center w/ Polished Dark Clear lip finish.
Front: 20x10.0 ET 10 LS: 2.5 (going to fit with Michellin PS4S size 275/35/20)
Rear: 20x11.0 ET 52 LS:2.5 (going to fit wiht Michellin PS4S size 305/30/20)

Here's a few pictures of the arrival, along with my current setup (factory 5-spokes, which I will fit with full-winter tires and swap when the season starts)

The wheels are currently off to get a ceramic coat for cleanliness -- afterwards, I will mount and balance the PS4S. Stay tuned for some more pics post-ceramic coating and post-tire mounting

those are very beautiful wheels. Did you have to wait for long to get them ?

The front offset is awfully close to touching the fender, given now you have a slightly bigger size tires (1% increase in overall circumference)? no ?

Yeah, I am going for a very "fitted" look, but I read some forum posts of 2-3 others with a W213 who are running the same offset and tire width and they say it fits fine with no rubbing. I'll keep this thread updated after they're fitted, but I'm going with those user's experience and hoping for no rubbing

Right on! I'm not quite sure where that club is located at, but I'll look around and for sure post some pictures and updates when I get the wheels mounted

As far as the wait time, here's the timeline of my order + delivery

May 18: I contacted HRE via email for a quote. I deliberated styles and fitments for a few days
May 23: I finalized my styles + fitments and asked for a quote. Received the quote and submitted payment information same day (half up front, half upon completion). They quoted me 4-5 weeks of lead time for manufacturing.
June 21: I received an email stating the wheels were done. They charged the remaining 50% and shipped the wheels out the same day
June 26 (my birthday, coincidentally): Happily received delivery

that's fast production to delivery timeline. In the past (like many years ago), I read in various forums that people were waiting like 3+ months to get their wheels.

Yes! His posts were my original inspiration for this exact fitment. His car looked great with them and he reported no rubbing or bad fitment

This is another post by him, I think the fitment will be really close and aggressive, but should be good for clearance https://mbworld.org/forums/w213-amg/...ml#post7885466

Outstanding choice of wheel IMO. These will totally transform the looks your car, not even counting the traction gains. Congrats on the purchase dude.

I'm not an "expert" but I share the same thoughts as bobblehead, the offsets appear like beyond the limit or right at it at best, depending on your ride height.

It may be the angle of the photo, but I can't see how these would not interfere at that ride height (?)

And raising the ride height may make them too pokey.

Of course the reality may not match my thoughts or anyone else's and I hope it works out perfectly for you!

Looking forward to hearing how it plays out.

Hmmm... well, I'll guess we'll see. I am currently lowered 40mm, and the picture was taken on my driveway with a steep incline, so it sits a bit lower on it anyway. Maybe I'm getting a little nervous about the fitment, but I trust the recommendation made by @apsuard and others who run the same/similar fitment. If there happens to be some rubbing, I'm curious as to the best approach for mitigating it. Perhaps I can use my custom obd suspension module and raise the car until it just fits? Perhaps I'm being a little too pessimistic, for all I know they could fit fine

Yeah, it may be totally fine but in pictures it looks wicked close and rubby on anything but flat roads. Pictures can be deceiving when looking at offsets, so if those who have done it say there's no interference, that must be the case. I don't mean to spook you or anything, lol.

I do know that when going that flush (or mexi-flush), ride height and angle of camber become crucial.

If you do end up with slight fender rubbing, you can escape that with a good camber kit and pitch a bit of negative camber in the mix, but that can be a tire wear trade-off.

Raising the ride height will make them poke out of the bodywork more, but will obviously give you more clearance.

I hope they just bolt up and ride without issue for you!

Exact wheel size specs I have my heart set on. Can’t wait to see how it turns out. I think it’ll be fine.

Yeah, I think the pictures may be deceiving the reality. Even on my last custom setup, there were certain pictures and angles I took that made it look like the tires totally foul, but it was a great setup that didn't rub.

You're telling me!!
Hoping to have ceramic coating done tomorrow, tire mounting by Friday (shop has to order in the specific sizes of PS4S tires) and pics that day or the following. Glad I can spark some freshness in the w213 forums. I love this thing and plan to keep modifying, tinkering and posting!

That ceramic coating stuff sounds like a great idea. Is that a timely/costly task? If it gets rid of the notorious MB brake dust then it'll be worth it. One of my sets is a light green and the barrels look pretty lame after about a week or so, despite me always wiping them down.
Those CF wheels on the HRE website are a whole 'nother level of baller-ness

Not very costly, relative to the price of the wheels lol. The place I take it too does ceramic coatings regularly, so they were able to just take the wheels and coat them while they were doing another vehicle. I'll be able to pick them up tomorrow, so a 1-day turnaround on that. The MB brake dust sucks for sure and the ceramic coating makes it way easier to clean with just some water and regular car soar rather than busting out the acidic/toxic brake dust cleaning formula stuff. They won't do the barrels of the wheels generally because thats where the wheel weights will go and they don't want any trouble with those not being able to adhere properly. They just do the face + lips

I had my wheels ceramic coated, with CCB not sure it was required. I like my detailer so said “sure” when he was going over the new car. It’s supposed to make them easier to clean.

Great thread!!! I hope it encourages more to post. We know you are out there

Just got back from the auto shop, and I paid a total of $80+tax for ceramic coating 4 wheels - a steal for the protection given the price of the wheels if you ask me . No pics atm, I'm keeping them boxed up until the tires get mounted
