Hyacinth Red /Cardinal Red Wagons Please Stand up
Hi all!
I have a 2018 996u Designo Hyacinth Red Wagon headed my way and I couldn't be more excited!!! I've searched through as much as I can and I've found some info on W212 production numbers by color and a few more general threads on W213 production numbers. I've also tallied examples I've found on forum posts, auction sites, social media, and traditional sales sites. I have found a total of 5 2018's and 1 2019 in color code 996u Desgino Hyacinth Red Metallic aka Cardinal Red Metallic in the US and other parts. Curious to know who else is out there. Wagons or sedans, would be cool to get an idea of what's out there. I'm guessing there are only a handful.
-Cheers! 🍻

How’d you find that? I have searches for W213’s saved on the three main apps; cars, autotrader, and CarGurus and it’s been a solid year since I’ve last seen a red wagon listed. Nice pickup.

2018 E63S Wagon, 2017 Z51 Corvette
I started looking for a W213 early 2019. I went to a dealer and talked myself into going for a regular E series wagon thinking the E63S was just too expensive. Actually placed an order for a fully optioned one. A month or two later I cancelled the order. I realized no matter how good it may be, I'd always regret not getting the real deal. So several months later after looking across new and used sites I found a 2018 in red (not my 1st choice in color) at a dealer a hundred miles away. I called the dealer and talked with the salesman. Told me it was a trade in - the owner took the driving school and liked it so much he traded the wagon in for a new GT like they use in the school. I was told he kept it in pristine condition. At this time wagons were selling almost within hours of being listed. He'd already had several offers but all involved trades from out of state buyers. I placed a $5K deposit on it on that 1st call. Took a Uber the next Saturday to pick it up. Car was in brand new condition with about 4K miles on it. They gave me a hour long training session in it. The whole time I kept saying to myself "I can't believe I'm getting this car". I bought it with 3 years of the original warranty, 1 year of CPO, and 2 additional years.
I'm now pushing 30K miles. A year or so ago one of the motor mounts started throwing errors. The dealer had it for 2 months replacing both mounts. The electronics systems are glitchy. I occasionally get a warning to not exceed 50mph (thinks the air suspension is bad). I used to have the collision avoidance on but disabled that when it decided to do an emergency stop at 30mph with no one near me. Sometimes it takes a couple tries to get it to recognize I'm pushing the start button. The nav system is OK , but the ones in my wife's Lexus or my Corvette are far superior. The wagon has the worst seats and ride of the lot. It really likes to drink gas.
All that said, I really like this car. It isn't perfect, but once you have your foot into it all is forgiven. It is a in your face sleeper. Non car people don't really see it. Car people? I went to get a covid shot a couple weeks ago. I come out and someone is checking out the wagon and taking pictures. Just another day.

@TugboatBill - I love the fact that you took an Uber 100miles!! That would never happen where I'm at. Car looks great and I appreciate you sharing your experiences. Just out of curiosity, what was your first choice in color? Mine was Piedmont Green, only offered in 2018 as far as I know. I've only ever seen one and tried for months to work something out with the seller. But I am excited about my Hyacinth because it looks like an amazing color and 95%+ of these cars are Black / White / Silver / Grey.
@allanmac - another beauty! Looks very similar to mine. I had already found yours as part of my "research". Would love to hear about your experience with it. And yeah, I just wanted to see how many other red wagons are out there, this isn't meant to be a for sale thread.

I've had zero problems but there are only 27K miles on the wagon.
It's my daily driver but I don't drive that much!
I've performed scheduled maintenance as well as replaced the tires.
There was a high-pressure fuel line recall when I first brought it into the dealer (I am 3rd owner).
Also the battery was replaced under warranty since it appeared to be a dud.
Some of the accessories I've acquired are:
- The correct MB trunk liner
- Extra floor mats with the correct AMG label (still in the box)
- NOCO trickle charger pigtails attached to the battery
The car has been ceramic'd and there is PPF on the front half of the car. It was expensive and requires you to be very careful when washing.
I just realized (or forgot) after looking at the pics I posted that the PPF resulted in debadging the "V8 BiTurbo" badges behind each fender swoosh.
The E63 S Wagon is really just an all-around amazing car. It's funny how only certain people recognize what it is. For example, a German family walked by it here in Florida and stopped to inspect the car! I think my extreme detailing got a nod of approval!
Good luck, I'm sure you will enjoy yours!

My choice in colors was Lunar Blue, Diamond White, and then Cardinal Red. After owning the red I have no regrets. I'm definitely not a fan of the matte colors so those weren't on my list at all. When I was looking there was a olive green wagon in southern California a dealer was selling. Interesting color, but IIRC, there was something about the configuration or price that took that one off my list.

Out of curiosity, an MBUSA site inventory search shows a bunch of new 2023 Final Edition pricey wagons sitting on the lot as well as one white and one black wagon both at a nice price point.

I had mine in the shop (new place, pretty happy with it so far) and when I went to pick it up the service manager had me come out and see the other red E63 wagon, a W212. I've never seen a red one before. Very cool. Sorry no pics.
