Small oil leak
An very small oil leak has just started on my 2019 E63S AMG with 42,000 miles. Just had my oil changed and the technician noted that the oil was exiting through the under carriage covers mid way back. HOPE it's NOT a rear crank seal🤞...LOTS of labor to replace a $25.00 seal! I've also seen that there was a recall notice on some vin's in model years '18/'19 for leaking oil feed lines to the turbochargers. Any ideas or comments would be appreciated 👍👊

Sorry! You've won entry into the "My RMS is Leaking" club. Hopefully, you're still under warranty.

Trying to arrange it. The shop technician that just performed my A service said he would need it for a day to remove the undercarriage shields and trace...AND I just sent an email to Affalterbach to get an explanation of why the RMS issue hasn't been acknowledged. ONE MAN ONE ENGINE😉

mb may tell you the guy who built out your engine is no longer working the factory floor. 😆

Just had mine done (on extended warranty, thankfully). Replacing the seal is only half the job. Replacing the clogged oil separators, which caused the seal to fail, is the other half. It's like a $10k job unfortunately.

My local Mercedes Benz dealer in Atlanta just notified me that "YOU GUESSED IT", the REAR MAIN SEAL as well as the OIL SEPARATORS are leaking! HOW can AMG simply IGNORE this KNOWN ISSUE!!!!!

QUESTION...Has ANYONE made ACTUAL contact with Mercedes Benz USA concerning the KNOWN M177 engine oil separator/rear main seal leak issues?? I find it hard to believe that it hasn't become a legal issue if it is this common. AMG must have an executive assigned to this very important segment of their client base. Anyone know who that might be?
27 HOURS at $295.00/hour is my quote RBM of Alpharetta, Georgia...
Hrs are the same as mine.
i am in Canada, my mb dealer rate is $186 Cdn .. that’s about $135 US (converted). That’s more than doubled to Cdn mb dealer. 😬. No wonder the quote comes in at $10,000

post # 271 .... the picture shows the labor rate is $189 per hr
so, OP should try another MB dealer for quote, IMO.
It's location dependent. You're not going to find one MB dealer charging $300/hr. and another $200/hr. in the same area. You might be able to save a few thousand by driving a thousand miles, but if you're in an expensive part of the country you're stuck. It's like buying a million dollar shack in California versus a $500,000 mansion in the midwest.

After reading MULTIPLE threads on my W213/M177 RMS OIL LEAK, here are my conclusions:
(1) The predominant M177 AMG automobiles affected are from model years 2018 and 2019 E63S's, G63's and AMG GT's.
(2) The leaking begins at around the 40,000 mile mark which takes 4 or more years BECAUSE these cars generally sit in the garage a lot. Thus the factory 4 year OR 48,000 mile warranty is not used. The extended warranty companies OR out of pocket customer pays the bill.
(3) EPA regulations have forced the use of OIL SEPARATORS to further eliminate crankcase emissions into the atmosphere. These plastic injected molded with internal spring loaded relief valves get CLOGGED over time. When clogged they create back flow pressure within the crankcase.
(4) The REAR MAIN SEAL like all seals is designed to withstand a certain amount of pressure but when that pressure is EXCEEDED over time will create the loss of its' sealing ability. The CLOGGED POOLY LOCATED INACCESSIBLE OIL SEPARATORS are left UNMAINTAINED and eventually CRANKCASE PRESSURE STRESSES THE RMS creating the leak...VOILA🤑 and ANOTHER $9000-$10,000 MOSTLY LABOR REPAIR!
(5) Once repaired the EXACT SAME RMS FAILURE will happen AGAIN at around 80,000 miles IF the "ONE ENGINE ONE MAN" AMG "engineers" haven't found a retrofit solution. Probably won't happen since way too busy "electrifying".
(6) I'm told that an "ITALIAN TUNE UP" regularly performed is the ANSWER to keep the oil separators flowing🤣 Always FUN but we know us 600+ HP AMG owners ALWAYS maintain the legal speed limits👮♂️
MAYBE someone in Affalterbach KNOCK KNOCK could enlighten the group of THE ANSWER as my local Mercedes Benz Service Manager HAS NEVER heard of ANY of these issues with the M177 engine. I'm in Atlanta, Ga and there a LOTS of M177 FLYING around this city!
(7) Federally mandated EMISSIONS COMPONENTS are to be warranted for a period BEYOND the standard factory warranty of the auto manufacturer. I believe it is 8 years/80,000 miles?. WHY wouldn't the OIL SEPARATORS fall into that category??
We NEED to solicit an attorney WITH a M177 in his car to join the group!
(8) Do we think ANYONE at Mercedes Benz EVER reads our forum 🤔 Maybe forwarding this to EVERY service manager or executive contact you may have at MB would be helpful. I have sent this entire RMS M117 thread to mine at RBM of Alpharetta. Next it will go to an Executive Referral Manager at the Atlanta headquarters. It is OUTRAGEOUS that Mercedes Benz AMG hasn't responded to this OBVIOUS issue only to become more prevalent as these M177's approach the 40,000 mile mark. I suspect in time NO extended warranty company will issue a contract on these cars as there are VERY few who will today. Jim Moran's Fidelity in Florida is the only one that I know that will...
The strange thing is someone already posted this issue as covered under emission warranty in the US but some members here still get charged and some didn’t. The latter was either covered by extended warranty and/or emission warranty.
I am in Canada and don't have the extended warranty and my dealer said even if i had that, it still would not be covered at all.

I had previously posted that I asked my shop foreman if there was a TSB on the condition. He informed me that there wasn't anything of which he was aware. Also, he had not seen this type of failure (RMS leaking and oil separators) in recent history with this engine.
I'm on the cusp of buying a used low mile (less than 15k) 2019 G63. Is this RMS leak issue a big enough concern that I should reconsider my purchase? The car comes with a 1 year CPO warranty...but from the sound of it this RMS leak will develop after that warranty expires...thoughts from the collective?
