Buyer's Advice, please ('18 - '20 E 63S Wagon)
Dear Forum,
I am test driving and looking at 2018 - 2020 E63S AMG Wagons. I am looking at the USD 70-90k range and I would like to ask your opinion on the piece of mind that comes with CPO. Right now, I am considering the following to top contenders:
2018, 30k miles and USD 73k, Accident, No CPO, no driver's assistance package, but ccb
2019, 50k miles, USD 80k, No Accident, CPO,
Essentially I am trying to get some owner's advice on whether I should be spending 7-12k more for CPO (and no accident) or not. What have the repair experiences been in this "mileage range" for you?
Thank you so much, can't wait to join the club,
LongS211

Have you check this forum for various discussions on RMS, misfires and suspension on 18 & 19 (mainly) ?
price for the 2018 seems pretty high to me. I am thinking around $65k at most (especially there was accident, assuming it was very minor)

cpo is nice insurance to have. CCB are just not worth it if you are not going to track the car. replacements when worn will cost you a ton.
i did cpo on my 2018 but not sure i got my money back. had some coil issues early on, but that has really been it.
i love drivers assistance package.

After owning a few of these wagons, both with and without ceramics, I'd say ceramics are essential. Brake pedal feel and cleanliness alone are worth the added cost IMHO. Bottom line: all of these cars are great. And if you've never experienced ceramics on a W213 E63 or don't care, then steel brakes are always your best bet.

Appreciate the comments on the ceramics (really do), but have decided that they won't be a deciding factor for me. I'll take them if they are on it, and gladly take steel brakes, too. My questions is more regarding the CPO. It appears to me that buying an 18 or 19 in the 25-50k mile range would greatly benefit from this as RMS or other items may make a significant dent in the first year of ownership. And if they don't fail while under warranty, at least I'll know by that time that I bought a sorted car, and not one with damages due to deferred maintenance.

CPO has had poor quality and requirements in the past. I too would push for a third party inspection and look-over. One other point I push is an oil analysis if possible. Not sure what the viability is of sucking used oil out of the oil cap!

CPO" The certifying dealership will pass the vehicle with bare minimal requirement without addressing any wear tear items.
Don't be surprised if within a year or so, you need the brakes, tires, fluids and plugs, trust me been there done that.
Certification also allows up to 3 panels to be resprayed without notifying the prospective buyer and those 3 panels don't include the front and the rear bumpers
The best way to skin this cat is to get a PPI done and ask for:
a Carfax------- CF alone might be able to tell you how often and what has been maintained on that car
All electricals functions
VMI
Condition of the fluids
Brakes
Wheels and tires
Any leaks or any rust underneath
If it passes the PPI----- spend the money on a good after market warranty that will give you the much needed peace of mind
