This was at a dealership if you can believe it. One that's "AMG Certified", I should be back on the road later today, hopefully with no new issues from trying to mount the damn rears in the front. Not expecting any though since the car literally couldn't roll out of the bay.

Who is the dealer? Name names. A mistake of this magnitude should involve a f2f discussion with the service director. This is a mondo error that paying MB dealership service prices is supposed to completely avoid. They should comp the work to acknowledge they did not meet the expected quality standards.

I used to go to a General Tire store, but when they put a set of Michelins on and I checked the inflation and found it to be 80 psi (before I drove off), I never went back. Always go to the dealer now and negotiate a better price. If someone can't check inflation, who TF knows what else they can't do. Just what I need on a 600+ hp car where I routinely go into the triple digit speeds.

Also would never go anywhere but the dealership for an alignment... I have faith in my dealership (Autobahn Motors on the SF peninsula). I've been given a tour of the service facility and, apart from a stiff price, always get what I consider world-class service. YMMV.

Will drop the name of the dealer once I have the car back in my possession hopefully in the next few hours (never coming back), they are gonna comp the work which is what I consider the bare minimum. It's crazy to me because I came to the dealer for this for similar reasons as you stated, didn't want some random tire shop messing things up, only for me to discover how bad things are upon inspection or worse yet; when I'm hauling ***. Will find a better dealer, I'm in the DC metro area so there are quite a few clustered. I honestly feel bad accusing Tire Rack of giving me bunk tires based solely on the feedback from the techs / SA; I should have been more forceful about being let into the shop to look at the situation myself.

Just don't know how they wouldn't catch this, no way I can trust them with actual heavy work in the future. Honestly considering doing brakes myself in my apartment parking spot if need be, I'll likely borrow a friends garage though. What a cluster

WOW

What a story (rear on front)

But I can believe it

Luckily at my dealer only AMG techs work on AMG's. It helps a lot to avoid these kinds of situations.

What kind of brain fart did the newbie have? I mean not even being a tech, just a car guy, the FIRST thing I would check if something didn't fit was "are they all the same?"

Duh

WOW

This is beyond a mistake, it's concerning for a dealer tech not functioning correctly ... like mentally, like as a person.

A wise manager will get him checked out by a doctor and also consider a drug/alcohol test. how many other "mistakes" flew under the radar but are out there? None of the OP's concern but just floating some ideas.

Got the car back and so far so good, felt mostly normal? I have been driving my high mileage GX which is in dire need of a suspension refresh so maybe I'm just not tuned in. The drive from the dealer to the office was mostly surface streets so didn't get a chance to get up to highway speeds and see how things feel. The dealership is Euro Motor Cars in Bethesda. Honestly got lucky because the rears are large enough that after they foolishly mounted them to the front, the car literally couldn't move (or so they said) at least it didn't get handed to me to take home or go on a test drive. They at least comped the entire mounting / alignment, which frankly is the bare minimum. As you guys have pointed out, this is a wild mistake to make given how many times one would have to read the writing on the tire as well as visually observe the size difference. Even the non performance models have staggered tires, so I am truly stumped. I understand that mistakes happen and I make them myself in my line of work; but this was so careless.

On a positive note, the tires are noticeably less jarring than the PS4Ss. Some of that could be just fresh rubber, but my PS4Ss actually weren't that bad before I swapped, my had was forced due to a nail in my left rear in a location that was unrepairable. Very excited for my long drive to Delaware this weekend. Thanks all for your advice and feedback here, will keep an eye on symptoms and will have another shop check things out when I go to do brakes next month.

I'm a couple thousand miles into my first roadtrip on my second set of these tires. They are so much quieter that long rides are 100% more relaxing. I still can't believe your dealer story. When I got this set last month, also at the dealer, they didn't properly torque the center cap on a wheel and it disappeared. Second time they did that. Those stupid plastic hubcaps are like $300. Luckily my SA is fantastic and he provided a replacement.
