new Michelin Pilot Sport S5 MO1

just installed the new Michelin Pilot Sport S5 MO1 in place of my 4S tires... and alignment.
These are outstanding!!!!!... probably 20% more compliant ride than the older tires.. way more quiet. The wagon doesn't sound like I'm riding inside a drum anymore. Running 39 psi all the way around. I highly recommend. The technology is light years beyond as far as noise and wet performance.
I'm still confused as to if this is actually the replacement for the 4S... but it appears that this tire is designed for a lot of new OEM placements.
BTW... the sidewall is the best looking that I have ever seen on a Michelin (I have Cup2 tires on my 997.2 Turbo that I drive year around for the street)

Remember.. this is a Pilot Sport S5 (MO1) not the Pilot Sport 5... Michelin is changing nomenclature...

I've got a few thousand miles on mine. The noise reduction is amazing, isn't it? And the 300 wear rating seems to be real. They are wearing much better too.

It is unbelievable the transformation for my wagon as far as drivability and noise. I don't really thrash my car...as it spends a lot of time in Manhattan and Long Island.. and nothing more than an hour or so because it just becomes uncomfortable. Both my Dunlop winter tires and the summer 4S tires would let you know of every crack in the road with noise and harshness. I just assumed that it was the suspension and nature of the car. But after installing the tires (as I am planning on leaving the car in FL and using it there year round) I have found a new love for the AMG. It actually feels like a normal car instead of a compromise. I haven't had a chance to drive in true rainstorm but I have high expectations. When I talked with the people at Tire Rack they really couldn't give me any sense of what to expect. (I think they would have rather sold me inventory of 4S vs the low inventory of these...
I can't recommend them enough.

I have a set on the rear and will be putting them on the front when they're ready for replacement. Definitely better ride and noise level.

Curious how the inner tire will hold up with this new compound

+1 to this.

That's what ruined my previous set. Kept pressures exactly as recommended and still the inner edges wore out way early. Now I know to look for it, but previously was only looking at the front tires for the inner wear. Supposedly the tire has multiple compounds across the tire and was specially designed for the car, so hopefully the inner edge has a tougher compound that will help the tire wear more evenly.

curious to hear experiences. I've switched to Continental's for the last couple of sets and enjoy them quite a bit but certainly always open to options!

My initial thoughts from last summer, https://mbworld.org/forums/w213-amg/...ml#post9025199 , are only confirmed. Compared with the PS 4's, better handling, better ride, dramatically quieter and better wearing. No direct experience with the Contis, but I can't imagine they'll beat these.

I'll add that when I went from the original P-Zeros to the PS4s, that was a +4 (subjective tire scale units). Going from PS4 to SP5 is +9.

I went from stock Pirelli's to Michelin's for a couple sets and then decided to try Conti's as comparison. Seem to be getting more miles out of them and they're quieter, wear more even is an additional bonus, but I don't drive the car hard. Or as hard as I'd like . . . they also came in significantly less expensive, and I thought it'll be a worthwhile attempt and so far I have no complaints but I'm likely going to go back to Michelin and give the new ones a try

I want to emphasize that it is worthwhile to get an alignment at the same time changing the tires. I was shocked as to how outa whack my car was ....

I ordered them from Tire Rack.... Luke was my sales person. They won't push them on you as they have low inventory and probably want to push the PS4s out the door.

I believe the dealer can only sell the MO1 version. My SA says they've sold quite a few sets. TireRack will be a bit cheaper but the dealer is very convenient.

Can much be done in terms of alignment with this car?
Almost no adjustments can be done in the front right is what im reading of peoples experiences.

Be aware on the E63s.. the alignment is only toe.. No Camber adjustments so 4 wheel "alignment" does nothing except if the bushing inside the arms are worn.

yeah exactly, hence some people getting adjustable controllable arms.

Can toe be calmed down to the point where the crazy inner wear is a bit mitigated? On stock components that is.
