2006 CLS 55
First day driving my CLS55
Today, I got to drive my brand-new CLS55 about 100 miles. What a delight! I had been driving a 2004 E55 for the past 18 months, and I find the CLS55 drives easier with a greater sense of control, brakes smoother and all and all is an experience far superior to the E55's. Have others also found this to be true?
In addition, the drive-dynamic seats work much better; the front seats themselves are far more comfortable and their cooling function actually works. The navigation system is slightly improved, too, over the 2004 E55's.
This is one great car! I cannot wait until I have put a thousand miles on it and can begin to exploit the power of its super-charged engine.

Same here.
Had all the 55's incluging, E, CLK, CL, SL, etc. CLS55 best driving out of all of them. Great handling and ride combo with best steering out of all of them, plus best interior out of all of them too.

2006 CLS55
Love my CLS55. It's my daily driver and I've racked up 11,000 miles on it since January. I looked at the Bentley GT and honestly this car is more beautiful in my opinion.

Had a Bentley GT last year. Honestly, I can't think of a single thing the Bentley is better, except more expensive which may make it a rarer sight on the roads.

BoBcanada,
I am in the same boat. I only have 1.25 more years on my lease and I love my E55. The CLS' only downfall is the headroom in the rear. I take clients out in my car, and I would hate to have them not fit. But, then again, I was thinking of telling my taller clients to sit in front and have the shorter ones sit in back. And since I don't take them out every month, that might do.
But, the E55 engine is so sweet. Would the CLS63 really be worth the money or should I just buy out my E55 lease and save my money for the next beast MB will come out with. The next version of the 65 series is suppose to have at least 640-700 hp. Now that is worth upgrading

2006 CLS 55
Let me add a few more comments and respond to the expressed desire of several posters to more horsepower. Automobiles are systems that perform best when balanced. The CLS55 has more systemic integrity than any other Mercedes-Benz I have ever driven, and I have had the privilige (due to AMG both through the Driving Experience and three visits to Affalterbach) to have driven them all except for the G55 and the S65. Six hundred or seven hundred horsepower and concomitant torque is wonderful, provided that the rest of the car can exploit it to its full potential; at present, I do not believe that the 65 series cars do that.
I have had only limited experience driving my CLS55 at this point, but I have driven E55s for years. There is a world of difference between driving my 2004 E55 and this new CLS in terms of handling; the CLS55 simply grips the road better. As for acceleration, I have not been able to really let it "rip" yet due to the restrictions imposed on the first 1,000 miles of driving, but I am sure -- given it has the same engine as the E 55, to be more than adequate.
As for the horsepower, 469 of them is more than sufficient to get the CLS 55 to 150 miles per hour, at which point I have found the fun is gone for me in driving -- it is an exercise of intense concentration to stay alive and safe -- and the torque of 516 foot-pounds is more than sufficient to challenge the car's tires. I admit that, speaking practically, I just don't need any more, even though, yes, it would be fun to say that my car has 604 horsepower or 738 foot-pounds of torque.
My desire is always to be leading the group of cars in which I initially find myself and then never to be passed thereafter. While I could do that with my last E 55, I think that my new CLS 55 can accomplish that with greater safety and a more satisfying drive.
My bottom line: the CLS 55 was worth every penny I lost trading in an E 55 that was only 18 months old and had less than 16,000 miles on it.

jmeyres, have you drive the later 2005 E55's. They have the same steering rack and suspension as the new CLS. The 2003 - 2004 E55's werent as "tight" if you will. However, I have no doubt that the CLS will not dissapoint me. I feel that the Kompressor engine we have in our 55 series motors are more than adequate and will level almost any car it encounters out on the road. I for one will be shipping it off straight to Kleemann once it comes in. I cant wait. Stage 3 from Kleemann is going to be insane.

Might be different on a race-track, but I intend to use this car on the common roads and highways 99% of the time - and the other 1% is not worth an additional 50K to me.
