Finally getting wheels restored!

Let the wheel restoration begin. These four were given to me after I had already purchased my 2003 W209. The dealer said I have four Mercedes wheels for you that go with the car. They have been sitting in my living room in garbage bags for almost a year now. Finally doing something with them! Here are the Before pictures:

I brought the wheel place my tires today and visited my wheels. They asked to mount and balance the tires themselves so their fresh work does not get scratched.

My wheels have received stage 1 of the process, stripping.

The owner of the shop was impressed that these original Mercedes wheels were forged and not cast. I guess that's a good thing. He commented that most modern Mercedes wheels are cast and have 12 to 15 welds, and that they break easily.

It will be another week or so, multiple steps involving sandblasting and degassing, and something with an oven, He told me they would look like new.

Here is the Instagram of the place, some good before and after stuff there:

And below is one of my wheels.

A little bit closer. Maybe tomorrow they go on the car if I can get an installation and 4-wheel alignment scheduled.

I bought the center caps from some local auto supply place, from China I am sure. $12 for all four! I happened to be at the dealer earlier today and asked if they could get them and how much they were. Yes, they could, they were $20 each, $80 for all four!!!!

I can't wait to drive with fresh tires.

The difference is astounding!
It must have been a lot of work.
Is it still far cheaper to restore than buy new?

My car is a 2003 and I assume these originally came on the car. They were handed to me when I bought the car, after the deal was done. The dealer said I have four Mercedes wheels that go with it.

The place that restored them charged me 550 euros for all four. They also commented after they had them stripped that these were forged wheels unlike most Mercedes wheels today which are cast. They said that was good.

I can't imagine I could have bought original style wheels for less than 200 each, so I am happy.

This was the place that restored them:

Two brothers working in a small, low ceiling, "building" with over $50,000 worth of equipment for straightening, cnc'ing, baking, welding, and whatever else they do to them. I am pleased.

Sounds great, Sixcarbs! I have certainly seen an awful lot of posts about cracked cast wheels (EV's) - so it's clearly worth it to stay with the forged from a durability perspective!

Finally! (Almost, my car would not fit on their alignment machine. haha) The first picture is on the used car lot the day I bought it.
