Manual Transmission Lorinser SL? Yes Please!

A Manual Transmission in an SL Is Something Sorely Missed, But If You Look Hard Enough, You Can Still Find Gems

For decades, it seems that Mercedes has been afraid of making a perfect car. Automatics have been part of their wheelhouse, mainly because the 722.6 has proven to be bulletproof. They stuck around with that transmission for so long, it meshed with the new era of superior automatics. Even with our years of crying for a third pedal to play with, Mercedes hasn’t budged.

If you’re searching for a manual though, adding a few years onto your search criteria can help. This 1990 300SL is proof of that. Not only does it have a manual, but it also looks to have a period-correct Lorinser body kit and wheels.

This one is up there in experience, though, with just about 128,000 miles showing. However, you can’t tell by the car’s interior and exterior. Unlike some SLs we’ve shown before, this one is not only very clean inside and out, but you wouldn’t be embarrassed to be driving it either.

Alas, it’s only a 6-cylinder, and won’t exactly be a rocket ship. But aside from a few newer SLKs, this is your best shot at having MB’s flagship manual drop-top.

Whether it’s worth $18,500 is a whole ‘nother story, altogether.
