2016 Mercedes SL Spied

Mercedes is slowly changing the design language used throughout its entire product portfolio. Each successive model’s styling appears to have more and more in common with the new S-Class’s lines.

Now we have our first image of the upcoming refresh to the Mercedes SL Roadster.

These images offer a small glimpse of what we’ll be getting in the future. We can see M-B’s new design language peeking through even though it looks as if the front clip hasn’t yet been changed to incorporate it. Notice the front headlights, which seem to be taped in. It’s probable that the brackets for the headlights – the same elongated, curvy units also found in the new C-Class and S-Class – aren’t yet in place since this car has the old front fascia.

This seems to be a very early mule. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was only testing out a new engine — possibly that now-very-familiar 4.0L twin-turbo V8.

We’re likely to get our hands on additional spy shots in the coming months as the car heads north for its winter testing schedule. We should see a more finalized version of the refreshed SL sometime around fall of next year.
