AMG E63 S Wagon Ruthlessly Cans AMG GT R

By -

Just go ahead and accept the big ‘L’ coming your way if you race this speed demon AMG E63 S wagon.

No one is going to cast doubt on the AMG GT’s ability to gain speed, no less one tuned by Renntech. However, Mat Watson from Carwow thinks there’s a wagon out there that can show the GT what for. That wagon is the E63 S, of course.

When it comes down to math, the GT should trounce the E63. The wagon weighs much more, and as Watson points out, is also down on power compared to the coupe. Watson gets to the details on the E-class, saying “I’ve got a 4.0 liter twin turbo V8 with 612 horsepower.” His opponent Tim Burton, aka YouTuber Schmee150, has a stage one RENNtech kit on his own personal GT, pumping out 672 horsepower. However, the E63’s truck is that it has 4MATIC. Does it make a difference? You bet it does.

All-wheel-drive in the E63 allows the wagon to unleash all of its horsepower at once without breaking traction unlike the GT. This puts it so far ahead, that at the end of a quarter-mile race, the wagon wins, despite the GT reeling it in rapidly.

Obviously, the humbleness was returned to the wagon when the challenges were changed up a bit. A roll race was without contest for the coupe. If you ever come up against someone who doesn’t want to race on a dig, this is exactly why. But when magazine headlines are all-important, it’s tough to argue against all wheel drive.

Another test thrown in for good measure was a high-speed braking test. Obviously the extra heft of the E63 carries it just a tiny bit further, but not as much as you’d expect, since both perform exceptionally well.

That’s just the AMG way though. From the 1980s, an AMG wagon could upset some fairly exotic cars. All while carrying your best friends, too.
