In today’s world of sports SUVs and sports sedans, none are more ridiculous than the cars coming out of Affalterbach. That’s right, we’re talking AMGs. And this next rumor is definitely something new and potentially exciting.

According to AutoBild, there are an increasing amount of rumors that AMG, who has its toe in the waters of being a standalone automaker, wants to potentially build a sports sedan to rival that of the Porsche Panamera. While you might say that they already build things like that, such as the E and C 63s, the rumors actually talk about AMG building a standalone model. Something completely different than the tuned versions of the E and C-Class models.

Right now, details are few and far between, but according to the article, AMG is working off the codename GT4 and will likely be a sleek four door sedan, much like the CLS. While other details aren’t available, it would be safe to say that AMG would likely use some form of the 4.0L twin-turbo V8 found in the AMG GT sports car.

We won’t know for awhile if the rumors turn out to be true, but what do you all make of AMG branching out like this, and is this four-door sedan the right way to go?
