It is a strange combination of a 1964 diesel Mercedes and camping rig, but it actually has a lot of potential.

Historically speaking, camping has always carried a bit of a stigma. Often, we think of these outdoor excursions as family trips, ones that we take in either humble tents or massive RVs that are essentially rolling luxury homes. But these days, glamping is all the rage. More and more people want to camp out in cool rigs that pack plenty of character, as well as amenities. And is there really a better way to do that than with this classy 1964 Mercedes 190D camper up for grabs on Craigslist?

It might seem a little strange to want to chop the entire rear section off a classic Mercedes and graft on a camper, of course. But it does make a lot of sense. For starters, you can’t beat the reliability of these vintage Mercedes diesel engines. They also pack enough torque to handle all that extra weight. And the seller claims that this one only has roughly 20,000 miles on it, so you could probably drive it for years with no problem.

Take a glance at the inside, and it’s immediately evident that this Mercedes camper conversion took place many years ago. It packs a vintage stove, fridge, and fan. There’s lots of green, wood paneling, and of course, plaid fabric. It looks like the inside of most people’s Grandma’s houses. And that’s perfectly fine with us.

Granted, this vintage Mercedes camper probably isn’t fast by any stretch of the imagination. And by looking at the pictures, we imagine it smells a little musty inside. But with a little elbow grease, you could have this thing up and running and looking great.

And afterward, you’d easily have the classiest, coolest, and most unique camping machine at any place you plan on spending the night.
