2018 Mercedes E400 Is All About the Feels, Says Straight Pipes

Stats, specs, and hard numbers are great, but these don’t define how great the 2018 Mercedes E400 Coupe really is.

The 2018 Mercedes E400 Coupe is a beautiful, luxurious, and competent car. It has many attributes worth mentioning, from excellent ride quality to pleasing interior lighting. But if you ask the guys behind The Straight Pipes YouTube channel, they’re in love with one unusual feature. “The no b-pillars is the best part of this car,” one of the hosts immediately points out. But is it really?

Well, maybe not. Our reviewing duo sums things up nicely by quipping “there’s a lot of stats and specs that we can spew at you, but no one can tell you how you feel when you drive and sit in this car.” And how is that? “I’ve felt the best in this car of any press car I’ve ever taken home,” the other host responds. Pretty high praise, indeed.

After all, cars in this segment should make you feel special. It’s kind of the entire point of owning a luxury coupe. Which is good, because performance from the 329-horsepower mill is only “a step above adequate.” They also don’t care much for Sport+ mode either, which makes the car a tad “twitchy.” In terms of road holding? “This isn’t a car that’s built to handle, but it does handle pretty damn good.”
