To slightly raise the price on brand new models, over the last few years, Mercedes has adopted the business practice of creating special editions to mark the very first serial numbers of that model. Called the Edition 1, these models get a special paint job, a few plaques, and some other special bits that you won’t be able to get on the normal cars, once they go on sale to the public.

The company’s newest Edition 1 comes with the all-new C63 and C63 S Coupes that are set to debut in a few short weeks in Frankfurt. The car will be offered with two unique exterior designs including one only available on the C63 S Coupe. That one will feature Designo Magno Selentie Grey Matte paint, a yellow film coating, and 19-inch Performance wheels with yellow flares. It’s all very similar to the company’s graphics on the new DTM racecar.

Besides the graphics and paint schemes, the Edition 1 will get ceramic brakes, and an interior upholstered in Napa leather with yellow stitching. The second Edition 1 will be far more tame, with only a few design flourishes that mark it as an Edition 1.

No word yet on how much each will cost, but figure the markup will cost a pretty penny. But I’d like to hear what you all think about these Edition 1 cars. Are they a good idea?
