Mercedes Sales Finally Surpass BMW
Besides Sticking It to BMW, Sales Also Went Over the 2,000,000 Mark for the First Time in the Company’s History
Mercedes-Benz sales managers are all sharing high-fives with the news that the marque’s sales surpassed 2,000,000 units in 2016. The achievement of 2,083,888 units sold also comes with the added benefit of putting BMW one spot below Mercedes in global sales.
A total re-vamp of the Mercedes line is most likely responsible for the 11.3% increase year-over-year, as compared to 2015. A regular onslaught of new models and updated designs meant the showroom always had something fresh and new for a potential buyer.

Luxury models are still the mainstay for Mercedes, edging out BMW and Lexus in U.S. sales. Interestingly, all three of those automakers saw a decline in numbers for 2016. One area of increase was China, where luxury cars are one of the leading segments. Nearly a quarter of all cars sold by Mercedes came from that country.
AMG units absolutely skyrocketed for 2016, with 99,235 units sold. Although, to be fair, there is an AMG version of just about everything on the Mercedes showroom floor. That increase accounts for an astonishing 44.1 percent jump from the previous year. AMGs aren’t really all that rare any more, it seems.
