Normal-Looking W208 CLK55 AMG Amazes at Drag Strip

If you saw this battleship gray W208 Benz cruising through your neighborhood, you wouldn’t give it a second look. If you were standing right behind it when it started and took off, you might think it had an aftermarket exhaust system. But when you see this car at the drag strip and the board flashes “10.161 sec @ 136.63 mph” you realize there is some serious work going on under that hood.

CLK

Part of getting a good launch are those mismatched wheels with 255/50-16Mickey Thompson drag tires on them. Some weight saving has been done to get this CLK bahn-burner down to about 3,700 pounds, but the real magic is the engine swap. Out came the stock motor and in went a complete W113k drivetrain. And a Weistec blower and mods were added to support the additional power, along with a tune by Eurocharged. You can read up on all the details on member blackbenzz’s MBWorld thread.

Maybe the most amazing thing is that this project is only just getting started. These first runs were done on 93-octane pump gas. But blackbenzz thinks that on E85 or race gas, with more tuning, he could break into the 9s.

Oh yeah, he also drove it to the track and back too. It is still a street car, after all!
