Bluetooth

Update. Not only is my Bluetooth working fine. Phonebook downloaded today as well!!! How about that. Like I said before I have a used MB phone system I bought off ebay. I have voice command I bought off ebay and a V60 Bluetooth puck I bought new at the dealer. 175 plus 135 plus 270. Around 600 for all of it. These guys on here are whining about the 22-3200 the dealer wants for this stuff installed. I have the PPC-6700 PDA phone by UTSTARCOMM or Audiovox. Once again all my features are working perfectly now with all factory equipment... Argos is pathetic!!!!! I could only make and receive calls with their junk and reception was garbage.

what do you mean by voice command you bought off of ebay?
Another phone with voice comand off ebay? or the Stalk control parts needed for Voice control from MB?

Has anyone tried the new Cingular 8525 with the Bluetooth puck?

I would like to get this phone if it works. I wonder if Cingular store would let me take one out in the parking lot and test it before I buy one?

Version info

I have a T-Mobile v600 with software ver 0B.09.3AR_A and I'm looking to get it working with the V60 Bluetooth Cradle Adapter. AWS says it will never ever work but Motorola seems to think that if sw ver 0B.09.4DR is installed by one of their authorized service centers it will work with my '03 s430. Any thoughts?

Also, if that turns out not to work, I'm thinking of getting a PEBL from T-Mobile (for free vs AWS for $$$). AWS says that sw ver 0B.83.76R_A is necessary for it to work, however, the T-Mobile PEBL phone comes with sw ver 0B.84.2AR. Has anyone had any luck with the .2AR version and the V60 Bluetooth Cradle Adapter?

Any input would be appreciated. Thx. Chris.

charnack - I'd at least try the firmware upgrade on the v600. What do you have to lose? If it doesn't work, try the other option - with one caveat.

Cell service providers do not always keep all functionality from an earlier firmware version in subsequent versions. Verizon is notorious for this. I have no experience with T-Mobile or the PEBL phone, so the experience of other contributors would be important.

However, since AWS sells a version of it, there is a fair chance for success. You might visit the T-Mobile store with your car and try one of their demonstrators with it before buying.

I have a Dopod 838pro and was hoping that with all of the latest BT and MB technologies I would be able to hook this up to my 04 C32 with an old Nokia buck....unfortunately after reading these pages, it doesn't look promising at all. Has anyone try or found a way to hook up any WM5.0 phone to the car successfully?

I can't believe that all of the pda users out there are suffering this problem

Thx

Charnack, try Howardforums.com and see if there is the firmware for you to download. If there is, you can easily flash it yourself if you are up to it. I have done that many times with no ill effect.

I don't know why I am the exception the the Blackberry rule. My 7130C downloads the address book! It takes a minute or two but it's fully there and accessible through the screen and Comand. My Bberry version is v4.1.0.321 (platform 2.1.0.26). The car is an 07 S550 4matic LE. Call list works. I haven't gotten any text messages to find out if that works.

I'm wondering if one day it will stop working. Is this a dream? Has anyone else experienced this working.

On further trials I note that the address book download only gets up to the p's. Must run out of room. No SMS.

I have exactly this combo and it does work to an extent. You can send/end calls using either the Comand head or the steering wheel and it will display the caller ID (number, not name). It will not download the address book, display SMS, allow call waiting or three way calling.

On the plus side, the audio quality is excellent, both receiving and transmitting.

Thanks for the report, Glenn.

Just a few days ago I went to Cingular and tried to pair the 8525 with the puck. We tried for about 30 minutes and couldnt get it to pair. We tried various combinations of settings without luck. I dont know if we were doing something wrong or not, as I am not too familiar with the 8525. The Cingular guy was pretty cool about it, but didnt know the phone that well. We even tried 2 different sim cards without luck. We never got to the pairing stage where you enter the 4 digit bluetooth code on the phone, so something wasnt right.

Whats the trick?

BTW, none of the phones that I know of will give you call waiting or three way calling with the puck. SMS is not supported either, that I know. The phone book should download however, so thats kind of a bummer.

The echo is from them hearing their voice come out of the car's speakers,
being picked up from the microphone inside your car, and being transmitted back to them.
There isn't too much you can do about it on an older system.
There just isn't any noise cancellation on that side in older systems.

Make sure the volume is maxed out on the phone and on the bluetooth device.
Adjust the volume form the bluetooth only, not the phone.

Please post back if you figure it out. I too have the 8525 and would like to pair it with my Lexus and my SL. Take care and good luck.

RAZR V3xx

Update on Motorola RZAR V3xx (Cingular)
Phone is significantly different from all the other V3's. This phone works on 3g, 20mg+ memory, 2000+ directory entries, video, MP3 etc... do google search.

I have a 2004 MB e-series with the Voice Command and phone cradle. Originally had a V60. Now bought the v60 puck for bluetooth.

The RAZR V3xx does link up and establish. I am able to use the Voice Command (VC) through the phone. The keypad dialer works also. The only thing that does not work is the phone book synchronization. This because the phone book structure is very different between V3's and V3xx.

Again everything but phone book works.

V600 Motorola works

The V600 which I purchased for my 2005 E320 (this one has the cradle) works in the 2007 E350 with Bluetooth. All the functions are useable.

Tried something new. I charged up my original V60 motorola and entered in a few addresses. Removed my Bluetooth Puck and replaced it with the V60. The phone book synchronized even without service. Then, removed the V60 and replaced the puck.

Finally, fired up my Motorola V3xx to see if the phone book in the car would be accessible ---It was not

Thus, the motorola V3xx can begin and receive calls. The Voice Command module totally works. Its just the phone book that doesn;t work. Note that the keypad on the car's dash does work. Thus, my conclusion is that the phone book structure of V3xx is different enough from other V3's where MB turns off the phone book, but luckily not the keypad nor the Voice command.

(By the way, the treo would not work with voice comman or the keypad. Only after I dialed the number on the actual phone could i use the car's mike and speakers) With the Vxx, the keyboard is larger and Voice command is very helpful.

Hope this helps someone

About to order a 07 ML350 or ML500 and have some questions after quickly skimming thru this very long thread:

1) When you have a phone paired w/ the car's bluetooth, is it speakerphone (hands-free) only or can you still use your ear piece (for privacy w/ others on the car)?

2) For those of you that prefer to leave a V60 in the car, so its hard-wired versus using bluetooth, thats a great idea. Instead of two phone #'s, you could clone your SIM chip and turn your primary phone off, and turn on the one in the car when you get in. I think that might be possible just dont ever have both phones trying to register.

Motorola V3xx phonebook almost works. V60 puck OBEX tweaked

I got my phonebook transferred and can use it. (one small drawback, I had to transfer each one manually & 2 I can't delete entries) The below works for me.

I have a 2004 E series with Command and Phone. Originally had V60 but replaced with V60 puck. Have Motorola V3xx with Cingular service.,

After noting that V3xx worked with the keypad, OK button, End button worked; I started thinking that the default Bluetooth settings might be incorrect. (Voice commands always worked). So, I went into the V3xx (Cingular) bluetooth menu and changed the OBEX Object Push from Ask first to Automatic && changed the OBEX File Transfer from Ask first to Automatic. Now the phone book key on the Mercedes is lit up.

I can transfer entries to the MB phone book manually. I can dial from the MB phone book or the number pad. VC Still works. When receiving call, it shows their name on the screen. Only thing that is missing is automatic phone book syncronization. Perhaps, this is better, since I have so many (>99) contacts and phone numbers. Unfortunately, I cannot figure out how to delete the contacts in the mercedes phone book because the delete key just gives the error: unable to delete.

I have tried and tried to delete phone book contacts and just cannot because I believe that the protocol of OBEX works good in one direction and not the other for the V3xx. I also think that the phone numbers are held in the puck and not the mercedes because when I get my V60 out and replace the bluetooth, I get new phone numbers

Here's what my protocol looks like:

UseBluetooth/DeviceHistory/MBPhoneSystem/AccessSettings (Make sure it is on custom):

Handsfree Voice Gateway: Automatic
OBEX Object Push: Automatic
OBEX File Transfer: Automatic
Dialup Networking Gateway Automatic

(Later I had the AccessSettings on Automatic and it worked by putting all those options to automatic)

Then, I went into the phonebook and to each entry I wanted to send to the MB Phonebook as an object exchange, I chose to send (push): Options/SendContact/Bluetooth/MBPhoneSystem.

I did this for each contact. It will also send all the phone numbers of a person to MB Phone entry. Thus if a single entry of John Doe with home and mobile for a contact in the RAZR, results in John Doe Home & John Doe Mobile entries in the MB Phonebook.

Unfortunately, I cannot delete the entry in my MB Phonebook once I tranferred it. Possibly because I manually pushed each one to the phone book. i.e. it was a unidirectional tranfer, not a bidirectional link where 99 entries of the phone book are linked

Thus far, my entries in the phone are ok.

**If the phone numbers don't show up yet, I have found that by removing the bluetooth puck, turning off the phone bluetooth. then replacing the puck and turning back on the bluetooth phone will get the phone book to show up again.

***Note, that this has worked for me and my system (except for the delete). The above senario so far is irreversable. I am not liable for your actions nor do I support using the information nor will I respond and give further information. The above information is just what worked with my system.

Now, if anyone knows how to reset the V60 puck, please jot how they did it. I think I am going to try to locate a RAZR V3 Cingular phone and pair it up and see if it will synchronize and thus delete the entries. Then, continue using the RAZR V3xx. Then, I might see how the Blackberry Pearl works with the system.

Question -- I'm about to order an 07 ML350 and the P3 package comes with "Hands-Free Communication System MHI Cradle" which is just the cradle, not the bluetooth module.

With that said, assuming I don't get the bluetooth interface, but instead get a compatible phone to plug into the cradle can I:

1) Still use an ear piece for privacy if I have others in the car, or will my phone be automatically broadcast over the speakerphone in the car unless I take it out of the cradle?

2) If I don't get the bluetooth interface, but my phone has bluetooth, can I still use my ear piece and mute the speakerphone, again for privacy?

3) I'm assuming it displays who is calling on the car's NAV screen or dash, whcih means now everyone with direct sight of either can tell who is calling?

4) Any point getting the bluetooth interface if I'm planning on buying a phone that fits the cradle anyway? Seems like a waste of $320.

1) I believe you can mute the call after it has begun by using the "Mute" button on COMAND, which would keep it from being broadcast in the car.

2) No experience here, but it should work if your have set up the Bluetoth between the ear pieceand the phone. I don't know if plugging the phone in actualy disables its BT capability - perhaps someone has tried this who would share the result.

3) Your assumption is correct.

4) If your preferred mode of using the phone is plug-in, you are correct that buying a BT module is a waste of money. The only thing it gets you is a bit more flexibility in updating phones. You wouldn't have to worry about finding a new cradle.
