Aux Cable or Ipod Interface Kit?

Yesterday my new 30GB iPod Photo came in the mail to replace the 10GB I lost(also it ran out of space). I know MB will be releasing an Ipod Interface Kit in July (hopefully) from their website (http://www3.mercedes-benz.com/webspe...sh.php?lang=en).
Should I-
1. buy the Aux Cable that goes from the glovebox to passenger door panel? or
2. wait for the Ipod Interface Kit if they ever release it? or
3. continue using the crappy Belkin Tunecast II FM transmitter I have now?

Does anyone know a place selling the Aux Cable for less than $35 shipped?

The MB interface kit sounds like the best one i've seen for all car makes so far, no dumb car playlists and it shows up right in the MFD, downside is it will be $300 plus installation.

And what about the Dension Ice Link Plus? Edit: nevermind, Ice Link isn't even compatible with the 2005 C-Class.

get the aux cable first, and then wait on the MB one and see how much it is and how much they charge for the install.

I got my cable for $27 from my dealer and installed it myself. Much better quality than that ****ty tunecast.

I'm not sure what the part number is anymore, but I do know I got the number from mbworld. it was on sawloo's post on diy aux input. that post rocked, and even I was able to do it myself (my dealer was charging 3 hours of work for what I did in 30 minutes).

part number: 203-540-61-07 (from my invoice) priced at $28.50 before tax.

my ipod sits in the ashtray compartment, cable runs behind the glove box, under the side panel and into the ashtray.

note that if you're doing the install yourself, you'll find that removing the panel by the door (A panel?) is the toughest part of the install; be carefull not to break it.

i printed out the info from the DIY post (see link above) and went to the dealer and had them charge me no more than 20 minutes worth of installation.

Just in case some dont know... The iPod integration kit will require the AUX input anyways... I believe the software update they install in the radio will change the AUX to iPod, and you access it the same way, or they may add a soft button option. But the sound from what I am told will still travel through the AUX input cable... Although this information is from the parts department at my dealer and maybe wrong... Also, the kit will not disrupt the cd changer like the other iPod kits.

Too many to list
Will this AUX cable work with a EURO COMAND NAV unit? I also have the factory CD changer. Will this interrupt the changer? I was given a different part number: 210-440-5005

Is this the same AUX cable as this number....A203-540-61-07? Thanks.

The AUX input cable is "Cable harness" A203 540 61 07 and sells for $28.50. You punch out a knockout in the right side of the glovebox. Pull off the cover on the right side of the dash with the passenger door open. Remove one screw from the passenger kick panel. Pull up the right door sill plastic cover. Push the 1/8" minijack into the glovebox from the outside. Dress the cable down to the sill behind the kick panel. Fish out the matching white connector for the AUX input in the wiring channel. Connect to the new harness. Replace everything neatly and completely. Any analog audio source that comes on a miniplug goes in the jack. To listen to AUX input turn on the radio, press and hold the CDC button 'till the display says "AUX INPUT". Takes about a second.

Took 20 minutes to install, and the connector in the wiring channel under the door sill is in every C class I have seen. (done 8 so far.)

I thought this was only for the 05's or older cars that came from the factory with navigation?

Nope, mine didn't come with Nav and I found the aux cable harness under the door sill in mine. Yesterday I picked up a mini plug to mini plug adapter and extension cable so I can run it into my center console and hide the wiring. Tomorrow I'll pick up the "203-540-61-07" harness to finish it off. And if you were wondering, digging out the aux harness was a two beer job.

I think you misunderstood me... What I meant to sayis that only the 05's have AUX inputs as well as the older cars that have navigation from the factory. For me digging out the harness was also the hardest part... My hands were too big to reach down in there to grab it, had to use a hemostat! (I put mine in back in January).

BTW, completely off topic, what kind of watch are you sporting in that pic? Put some more hair on your arm and I would have mistaken that pic for my own!!!

lol! the watch is a pretty rare Timberland production sample, MSRP $110, I got it for free from a friend of mine who's an exec there. I don't think they produced more than a handful because I've never seen anything similar to it and i've seen a lot of Timberland watches. The thing sure takes a beating and keeps on ticking!

Roger that. Today I ordered the aux cable harness. $35.40 and they don't stock it. The parts guys were clueless when I asked them about Ipods and the Kit and Aux Cables. They're like "what is an aux cable?" and "Ipod kit, I think I heard about those, that's coming in a few years, maybe, possibly."

Update: Got the Aux Cable today, $37.52 but it's awesome quality sound, it works great and I ran it to the center console.
I had to educate the parts manager on what it is for and how to install it, he came out to the car to watch. Now when people ask them about it he'll have atleast half a clue.
Pics will come later!

I'm confused now....is there a difference between this AUX cable and the iPod kit from the dealership? Did you have to order two different cables?

Yes, there is a difference. The Aux cable plugs into the stereo and provides you a place to plug in your iPod using a male-male 3.5mm headphone cord. This allows you to hear the iPod output just as if you were wearing headphones in the car, which means that any song switching has to be done on the iPod itself.

The iPod kit is a unit that plugs into the fiber optic system of the car, charges the iPod, and allows you some control over the iPod with steering wheel controls, as well as displaying the song information on the dashboard screen.
