A chippie handed my friend a razor blade on the side of highway 17 going towards Santa Cruz at night. In the chippies defense, my friend did have limo tint all the way around. The way the law works, you can't have any tint on front windshield, front drivers window, and front passenger window. I've gotten away with a very slight tint in the front windows and a very dark tint on the rear ones. The dark tint in the back makes the front windows look like they are untinted! =)

Haris what do you mean by wrapped the OEM rubber seals with moleskin..?

Do you mean glue them in the part that touch the window..? I am not sure if you could wrapped them in mole skin.

Here is a pic

The part that touching the windows is the on the left (the pointy side)

the moleskin has an adhesive side and sticks to the strip which touches the glass. that way the tint doesnt get scratched.

Damn people, got my car back from the tinter here in LV that work on all the Metro Police vehicles and didn't have any pieces missing. Of course because I have grand kids I paid $25 for a lifetime replacement no questions asked guarantee, and paid for it with the discount they give PD employees.

Out here we don't have much problem with water, but my salesman said that when the tint was applied I needed to tell the installers to be really careful with the amount of water used. Seems somebody in SFO didn't want to pay the dealership to put on the tint and went to one of these corner tinters.

The story I was told was that they used too much water and there were a lot of fiber optics in the doors that got flooded and ruined. Not covered by warranty to the tune of about $2000 in repairs.

So, if your window seals were taken out, run don't walk to get them put back in right.

Tinted My Windows

I took in my C230 to AudioZone and now have 20% tint all around! Car looks beautiful! I will be taking in the SL to get all around, and my Jeep to get its driver & passanger windows tinted as well.

I guess I've just been hit with the "Tint Bug" but gotta love it!

I'll try to post some pics soon!

They did the moleskin I hope. There is an issue with scratches on the c-class windows. Keep us up to date.

I was talking about this issue with my tinter, and he always recommends the moleskin for both C and S class. He had not tinted an E yet. The catch on this is if you do not put the moleskin on, and the tint gets scratched, which it will, it will cost twice the original cost to replace it. They have to strip the old tint and re-do it, and it is not something the tint companies consider a defect in the tint. And, unless the tinter has had experience with tinting MB's they will not necessarily know to either recommend this, or to include it with their pricing.
I am perplexed as to why MB would go to the hard plastic on the inside channel. Seems to me, that even without tint, the windows would eventually scratch, especially if you live in a sandy area.

This is just my personal druthers speaking here.

After a while, in all the MBZ I've owned from '67 to now, the inner "rubbers" get hard and if as in the older cars had "fuzz" on the parts that touched the glass, the fuzz wears out.

I don't like kludging on something with a sticky back onto a standard part. In the summer heat the insides of your car reaches 150 degrees, and any type of add on adhesive starts to let go and there goes your addon moleskin and there goes adhesive onto your tinting.

My choice, pick a nationwide chain and a company in town doing tinting for years, and pay $25 for a lifetime guarantee free replacement against any casualty. Friend of mine had a teen aged daughter in the back of his s430 listening to music in her headset and keeping time on the back passenger window with her house keys. Killed off the film in one trip.

Out came the guarantee, two years after the install, and on went fresh no charge, no quibble install.

I'll be tinting my windows in the next couple of months.
Would have to add that if you're in the San Diego area,
check out LOU'S Custom Window Tinting. Highly recommended !!
I've seen the quality work they do, and they fully understand the Mercedes-Benz window issues (moleskin on sides, best shade to use depending on your car color & interior and % of light through-put, rear window radio reception issues & use of non-metallic film, etc...) All these issues have been discussed on these forums, just do a search. Let me know (PM me) if you need LOU's #.

The window molding inside the door is hard plastic and has been known to scratch the window tint. Of course this depends on how often you roll the windows down and how tolerant you are of fine scratches on your tint. To fix that, some window tinters cover this plastic with cloth like a velour or moleskin. What is moleskin you ask? It has nothing to do with moles or the skin of any animal. It's a fabric (typically cotton or polyester) that resembles suede, usually used to make womens fall/winter garments, typically slacks. You can get moleskin or any thick soft fabric at a local fabric store or some people where happy using the soft half of velcro strips.

Tint Shop in SoCal

There is a place in Buena Park that Marcus from HOI used... It is at Beach and Orangethorpe... I went and talked to the owner and wish I had used them. Cost is under $200 but the best part in addition to the life time warranty, if you get a fix it ticket.... for $30 per door they will remove the tint, and replace it after you get the ticket signed off.... That is GREAT.........

is that $200 including the mole skin? how much do they want for the mole skin?

I went to a tint shop in Rosemead and it was $120 without the mole skin for the Titanium tint. Forgot if it was $5 or $10 dollar to remove per door.

I used Vision Tint in Anaheim on Tustin Ave, between the 91 fwy and La Palma. No scratches in the 3 yrs I've owned the car.

Question somewhere in the San Fernando Valley?

Is there a place that offers the same deal somewhere in the San Fernando Valley? That is an AWESOME deal. I have been going back and forth trying to decide whether i should just get the legal tint..even thought it does not make sense to have the front windows NOT tinted. This deal makes it worth it.
