Dude, there has to be hundreds of tint shops in NYC...just go inside, checkout the tint and ask what the warranty is. Get a clear warranty in writing.

I heard this shop was pretty good: http://www.tropicwindowtinting.com/ which is in Union.

The answer is yes. I got one about 2 weeks ago. Every state is different but as far as I know anything below 50% on the front/side glass is illegal everywhere...I think.

also remember that your interior plays a role in how dark it would be. I for example have light interior and got 15% all around, but it doesnt look to dark at all.

your exactly right. i have black interior and it makes a big difference. if you look in the windows it appears that you cant see anything because there is no contrast.

I just got mine tinted today. All of the shops i called never heard of moleskin. They say there tint is scratch resistent but not scratch proof. I ordered the moleskin today just to be on the safe side. The tint shop gave a warranty but i don't want to have to keep going back there because of scracthes. Hopefully the install of the moleskin wouldn't be difficult.

wow. i didnt expect them to be that thick actually. i always thought little dirt particles on the inside start rubbing and you'll have little fine lines that have the same transperency as air bubbles do. like if you scratch it with something like a nail.

like above pictures, the tint has gone really bad, and it pisses me off especially in rain. I couldnt stand it.

I just got tints put on my mom's brand new Z4. We did 35% on the driver's and passanger's window and it came out pretty well. It's just the right amount so it's noticeable and gives a decent amount of protection (I'm from Cali).
It's also supposed to be pretty safe when it comes to cops as you can see through 35%. It's supposed to be a pretty good % for looks/safety.
I would get 35% fronts and about 20% rears. I have that on the 325i and it looks real slick. Also find a shop that has plenty of experience with German cars. If you don't see any BMW's, MB's, or other high class cars, I would go to another one. Also $225 seems a bit much.

I ordered the moleskin from automoleskin.com and installed it today. I have to say it was easier than i thought. The first door took about 20min mainly because it was the first one and i was reading the directions. Each other door took less than 10 minutes. I could've done it in less than 5, but i probably would have ended up breaking or scratching something. It's about a 5 on a 1-10 scale of difficulty. Just though i'd share.

You just have to take the inner door panel off. You don't even need to take it all the way off, just enought to slip out the window seal that you need to put the moleskin on.

Tint Scratching on your car… how about an easy fix.

I have seen a lot of people talk about this so I had to come out and help you guys… this will fix all those problems your having.

This is really easy to do and its fool proof and it works really well and it will not scratch the tint of your car for life of the tint.
But however there is a small fall back to this… that is you will hear a little more road noise coming from the door you can barely notice is but if you pay attention to detail like me then you will notice the noise, but it is something that is so small that you can live with for sure.

The picture of my old car is attached with the tint and if you can tell it was not scratched at all…

Ok well all you need to do is:

1) Go to a local clothing store and buy some black velvet long enough to cover your door strips… (you know where I’m heading with this)
2) Take the door panel’s off the car
3) Take the weather strips off
4) Cut and rap the velvet around the weather strip there is no need to glue or anything to make it hold in place
5) Put the door strip back on the door and push really hard so that the velvet get wedged in and is not loose or dangling run your hand down the strip just make sure its not loose and then just put the door panels back on and your set.

All this does is put a little gap between the door strip/window thus is why you get a little more road noise. If your car is still under warranty and you have yelled at your dealer that your tint is scratching and they should fix it… follow through with that and provide them with the velvet and get them to put it on your car for free.. my dealer did that for me and I’m sure yours can do that for you. But I have also done this my self on my friends car so I can help you with the install if you like… if you have any questions PM me or e-mail at the address blow
Good luck
sorry i dont have better pic of this mod.

Velvet is too fragile and won't hold up for the long term. What my tinter did is sand the plastic that's being glued too and use the fuzzy part of a velcro strip and it sticks on good, never had a problem with it. He may have used a commercial grade velcro strip that has a better adhesive, I don't know but it's certainly easy, no glue mess, no cutting fabric.
