Metallic tint ALWAYS messes up radio signal and remote range. The signal for those things are on the rear windshield. Some people leave that metallic tint on and just get a signal booster, which rarely works. But there is nothing "defective" about your car, it's simply something that happens with every Mercedes. You have to get ceramic/huber-optik tint in order for it to work. It is recommended that you take the car to a Mercedes/European Car tint specialist, they'll get the job done MUCH more efficiently so you won't have to waste time with people who throw metallic tint on and blame it on you.
thanks for the reply and sorry for posting another thread . i didnt mean to take up space, but i did search the thread and brought the information to the tinter and he deny's that metallic tint shields signals on cars. in their lot they tinted a new s550 and a cls 55amg, one of them was metallic and it had no problems.

i wanted some urgent advice because he took the tint off and the remote and radio continued to stop working and i couldnt find any info on this on the threads. i did, however, see that someone did get their defogging lines cut which caued permanent damage, but mine werent... so i was trying to get to the bottom of it and i had to make a decision today.

basically im taking my car back to the dealer and am reporting the problem with the denial of ever going to a tint shop if they ask. then im going huber optik. i was just stuck in a debate with the owner of the tint shop and couldnt find a logical reason to why my remote and radio didnt work except for that they messed something up and of course he denyed it.

They all back up their claims with "It worked on this car, it'll work on yours." That is complete bull****. I know an owner who said that to me about his S-class when he tinted it, yet I know he never tinted it. It was just an excuse to not spend the time and money making the customer happy. Metallic tint simply causes a messed up signal 9/10 times. End of story.

I had my c240 tinted with johnson ceramic file and not one issue with reception or remote. I did light all around which is like I think 50% and looks great nice and clean. The johnson film looks great and works great, and I personally like it. Never heard of putting felt or anything on the window trim that sits against the glass. I have never seen an issue with tint gettng scratched on various cars I have had tinted. my 300CE got a scratch after a few years, but probably some kind of grit got in there at the car wash at some point. but no biggie if I want to redo it I will, but it doesn't bug me on the CE.

on the C240, I am completely happy with the johnson ceramic film.

i wish i knew about "moleskin" before i got my tints done in the summer when i bought my car.... my 2 front windows are lightly scratched not bad but it is noticable during the day esp when the sun is out... i dk i think i might stop by my tint guy sometime and see if he would redo my tints for free

To tint or not to tint?

Hello
Newbie here. I have an 06 silver C230 and would like some opinions. My car came with the factory blue tint but I was thinking of going with a darker tint all around. What do you think. Will tint make it look "funky". Should I leave it as is???

Definitely tint most C's on here have....check out other silver c's....i have 35% tint cuz thats the darkest i can go...either way, i think from wut ive read, CA is strict on the front windows....just follow the law you dont wanna give cops a reason to pull you over..

Thanks for the quick replies. I will take a look at others. I don't want to go too dark and I want all four windows done if I do go ahead with it. I know CA has pretty tough laws but I think I will take my chance of tinting all four!

it dosen't look weird to get it tinted. BUT the Solextra glass does filter out some UV.... I don't plan on tinting my car.

hmmm...get's me wondering if I should tint or not...Silver '03 C230K Sedan...thinking of just doing 35% on the rear passengers' windows and rear "hatch" window...do you guys think that would look awkward?

Like I said, I asked for 35% and my tint shop said that after applying the 35% it came out to be actually slightly under 35%. Thats probably because of the slight factory tint, I'm guessing?

Well I dont think leaving the front windows stock will be "awkward" however it would definitely be noticeable...but its because of CA law that your considering right? Heck if its the law, its not your fault if someone says anything about it..

35% dark. its the lightest tint you can get in most places. looks classy. not too dark, not too light. looks good on light colored cars

if you're just doing the rear windows, you can always get the factory clip-on sunshades.

if I ever wanted to remove the tint (cops, starts peeling, ugly, turning purple), does the original blue tint come off too? it would look weird then...
