so what exactly makes the difference between the amg calipers and the 2004.5 calipers...they look identical in every way but magically require nearly an inch difference in rotor size?! lol is it just a smaller pad for the 2004.5 version?

I don't know - you need some one like Frank who has done much fiddling in this area. I understand the the 4.5 sport calipers where made for Benz by Brembo. AMG source I don't know or piston bore sizes, ratios with master cylinder etc.

ya well i know brembo makes pretty much all of the sport brakes and amg brakes...i have the '05 c230k with the large 2 piston and they're brembo...the 2004.5 4 pot are brembo, and all the amg are brembo as well...i just know the 2004.5 are slightly smaller than the amg even though they're both 4 pot and look the same

I'll bet the AMGs have larger bore pistons & obviously take larger area pads.

yes i did...again they look identical in nearly every way, except i suppose the tips are slightly differnent. So what exactly are you looking for me to say?
O wait, one says Mercedes Benz and the other AMG, how silly am I...i guess that should tell me everything huh?

Also note that it was mentioned that the 2004.5 calipers and C32/C55 calipers share pads. Not to get on your back but you gotta read the threads more thoroughly.
Gaiex's post on page 18 of this thread difinitively outlines the differences between the different brake calipers for the sport sedans. Everything is there, pictures and part numbers. I don't understand what's so difficult.

Thanks e - I don't have the experience & I have not read this thread in detail - I just posted an obvious choice of supply from Steve then got side tracked. Steve supplied a friend of mine here in SA. Trouble free transaction.

lol well i think i got to page 10 and had to stop from losing my mind...im sorry i dont usually have the time to sit down and read over 1000 posts to answer a question that someone who has been posting on this thread for so long could answer in one reply...i mean if it troubles you so much you dont have to respond but i was aiming that question at a more considerate reader i suppose...sorry for the inconvenience...
plus i dont see how larger mounting brackets mean an inch larger rotor? you saying that the rotor simple sits further from the axle in the amg version and thus is forced to require a larger rotor while the braking surface is identical tot he non-amg 4 piston calipers? if so thats pretty silly and i dont really understand why amg would do such a pointless act and result in adding unnecessary weight...

Steve does have a used complete set of C32 calipers at a nice price (not breaking up the set), as well as new front calipers with pads right now.

I'm getting ready to do my front R1 rotors and pads (going to Friction Master ceramics) and rear R1 rotors (thanks for the hookup, Paypaboi). I just wanted to check on the sensor issue as I'm making sure I have all the right parts and tools. I haven't gotten a warning on the MFD about the front OEM pads, so I'm wondering if there would be any issues/problems with just reusing the old wear sensor in the new ceramic pads.
I assume that since it hasn't been tripped yet, then it will still be good and function properly. But, I've never worked on the brakes before myself, so I didn't know if there was some part of the pad replacement process that might require a new sensor just because I was switching out pads (i.e. maybe pulling it out of the old pad might irreversibly trip it for some reason). If I don't have to make a trip down to the dealer and give them $8 or so for a new sensor then I'd rather not.

Haven't done the brake on the MB yet (about to soon), but on other Euro cars you can indeed re-use the sensor. Usually the sensor is simply two wires running into some kind of end piece that fits in the brake pad. The wires are connected in the end piece. As the brake pads wear down, so does the end piece, and eventually the end piece wears to the point that wires aren't connected anymore - at which time the display warning is triggered. If the display hasn't been triggered yet the sensor may be worn down some, but should still be useable.
If you don't want to mess with the sensors anymore, simply clip off the end piece, twist/solder/tape the wires together, and tie them up out of the way. (Not advised unless you check your brakes often ...).

good thread!
Look like im going with OEM sport rotors and Posi Quite Ceramic pad. My set up only has about 5-10k on the OEM rotors and pad but the previous owner did not resurface the rotors or cleaned them when he changed the pad, so the rotor is not smooth and has minor ridges, its annoying to me. Anyhow i have used the Posi Quite before on my 330ci and it is a great pad, the ceramic series have almost no dust, no squeaks if you bed them correctly, and stops better then OEM, plus it last twice as long.
Now, im been reading but could not find the info, maybe i just missed it but does anyone have the OEM part number for a 04 c320 Sport? (4pot caliper) or the cheapest dealer to get them from?
Thanks
Tony

Those posi-quiet pads are made in China I believe.
I'll be putting Akebono's on mine. Made in Kentucky.
A little more expensive, but they've been just awesome on the front.
On the rear, it'll be the last set of pads I'll ever need.
There is no rear sensor FYI.

Benz recommend replacement of sensors with new pads. I guess this is a belt & bracers approach & to relieve us of a few more bucks. I always replace mine.

do all the models come with the sensors? and anyone know what the part # is for a '05 c230 for the akebono ceramic pads fr/r?

Mav, suggest you ask locally for your specific model. I don't think there are too many different sensors but there are a lot of different set ups for different markets. My car has sensors on all 4 wheels. Some have 1 back 1 front & some have 1 front only - why? frig nose.

ok cool...did you have to do anything special for the install? or was it direct replacement of rotors and calipers?

Hi guys, I have a 2003 CLK500. I need to replace the front pads and rotors I have a few questions about it.
1) Suggestions on pads with less dust?
2) Suggestions on front rotors? ie. drilled / slotted, both. Suggestinos for those??
3) I have SBC, what do I do to de-activate it so that it doesn't engae while I am working on it? I want to be safe here. Thanks guys.....
