I think those were the morse friction masters that used to be sold at Kragen online. Kragen doesnt carry them anymore though. I just got an email from Friction Master saying that they do still make them and he will find me a local store i can order from.... ill let you know when i hear...

Question. So I'm getting ready to do my own brakes this weekend. Parts are from Fletcher Jones. The front and rear pads didn't seem to come with shims. I'm not sure if its supposed to. I know aftermarket does. Are they expecting us to reuse the shim already there?

This is my big concern, and off course, that they have a good bite and no noise...

What about pagid's RS or ferodo DS, any one used?

PS: for C55/C32 front brake system, and I'm running out ATE pads, much better than OEM
Thanks

Hi...i have an 05 C230K coupe and Im also in need of new pads and rotors. I am having a hard time finding the Akebono F&Rs so I am thinking of going with EBC. I went to one shop yesterday and the guy told me he prefers EBC and he suggested the green stuff or red stuff.

I dunno if I really want green colored pads, but yellow or red would be nice. what do you guys think? how does the EBC compare to the Akebono

Anyone ever buy parts from www.importrp.com. I found some reviews and they seemed good. I just bought most of my brake parts from them. customer service seemed good too. I called, got a vm and they returned my call about 15 mins later. Also returned emails pretty quick. I guess well see when i get my rotors/pads... but if you have purchased from them please let me know how it turned out...

Thanks..

So what did you end up getting Roland? The Hawk ceramics?
was there no way to buy direct from morse?

I've been following the brake pad search and I just got back from autozone and kragen. i asked for pads for '06
autozone currently carries the duralast semi-metallics: MKD1121 for $27 and the Gold version (i don't know the difference) DG1121 for $35.
kragen has a couple different versions - mostly in-house kragen brand versions - except for Wagner brand pads, also semi-metallic, which go for $49 fronts (MX1121) and $56 rears (MX876).

I ended up getting, Hawk Ceramics for the front and Akebono Ceramic for the rear and EBC dimpled/slotted rotors for front and rear.

I tried to get from Morse, but the guy who was helping me said i had to get it from a retailer. He directed me to 2 so cal distributors who directed me to 4 different shops, i went to all 4 and none of them had them in stock and they checked with the distributors and they said that they didn't have them in stock either. I don't know why those distributors just didn't tell me they didn't have them. It was just a big waste of time... I told the guy at morse and he said he's still trying to find me some, but after 4 days without hearing from him, just decided to go with something else...

i went over to Kragen and autozone to see if they carried any kind of ceramics or could special order, but they told me that they didnt have anything but duralast is going to be making them, he just didnt know when..

The Hawks were $83.73 + $8.70 shipping from importrp.com
Akebono $70.95 + $6.95 shipping from partsgeek.com

i read that the dimples tend to really get clogged up since theres no where for the debri to go?!

The rotors i ordered from importrp came in today and of course there was a problem, see crappy phone pic:

The rears are the ones i ordered, but the fronts are cross drilled?!? They are supposed to be matching dimpled/slotted... Not only this, my Hawk pads weren't in the delivery and i don't have another tracking number?!?

i contacted importrp, but they close at 5pm and are closed on the weekends so i probably wont hear back til Monday which sucks since i had an appt to do these tomorrow. And i've been driving with the brake sensor warning for about 1000 miles. How long can you actually go from the 1st time the warning light comes on??

The Akebono rear pads came in from Partsgeek in pretty good shipping time, 5 days from the east coast...

yeah it sucks, but hopefully they will fix the problem this week. As for the dimpled rotors, i did a lot of reading before i bought the rotors. From that i pretty much got that there are negatives & positives about dimpled, slotted, dimpled/slotted, cross drilled etc, it basically depends on who you are talking to. The one thing that was common was, for cars that are daily driven and not tracked then as long as the rotors are at least oem quality then any of the rotors will be fine. I guess a lot of it depends on driving style, how you brake, etc...

Ill post up how these are, once i get them on...

sounds interesting...however i was more referring to the fact that since the dimples leave no where for the debri to escape that they tend to get clogged and tend to defeat the entire purpose of they're own existence...though i do like EBC use of slots that utilize the entire rotor face!

Is there any reason to think about any particular non-oem brake fluid? I'm getting the stuff ready for my C32 brake conversion w/2-piece rotors and Akebono pads.

Have been driving a loaner C300 for three weeks now while my oil leaks and a/c issues got sorted out. The coupey is faster, and glad to be driving stick again, but the 300's brakes seemed much better than mine. I guess that will be fixed soon enough.

Brake wear sensor - 211-540-17-17 - $22.50
Front pads (set of 4) - 004-420-90-20 - $107.25
Front discs (2) - 203-421-09-12 - $283.92
Labor - 42-9 Replace Front Rotors - $168.75

Total = $582.42

This was my first brake service and the car had 36,000 miles. I dropped the car off in the morning and the car was ready at 3:30pm. While there they also performed A-service, new wiper blades, new air filters and a few minor oil leak warranty issues. They gave me a free rental car for the day, coffee, a cookie, a tangerine and two dark chocolate Mercedes stars. I am happy with that.
Wow.....that's a REALLY good deal. Here is what Alex Rodriguez Mercedes (Houston dealership offering $1 oil changes) quoted me yesterday:
Front:
Rotors - $710
Pads - $285
Rear:
Rotors - $545
Pads - $233

Service B - $540

MB Sugarland quoted parts:
Brakes:
Front - $96.60
Back - $78.75
Rotors:
Front - $153
Rear - $73
Sensor - $11.25

I decided to go with R1 (thanks paypaboi) and DIY.

They kinda solved the problem, we got in touch with someone from EBC and he told us that they dont make a front dimpled/slotted rotor for the 05-07 C230's. It was EBC that provided the wrong info and not the place i bought it from. They offered a full refund, but instead of going through the hassle i just decided to use the cross drilled front and dimpled/slotted rear...

Theyve been great so far, but if i had to do it again, with this info, id probably go with R1 concepts for front and rear, or Zimmerman cross drilled front/rear and save some cash...
