ok, one of the cheapie eBay bulbs blew out on me over the weekend... just ordered the Hoens yesterday (along with something for the M3 too) and hopefully they come SOOON!

also, the expensive JLeviSW LED license plate bulbs for my M3 crapped out as well. they both started flickering and LED's in both of them went out... WTF is up with these damn bulbs! I've sent it back to JLevi and hopefully they'll send me back new ones for free under their warranty.

Do these Hoen bulbs fit better in the housing, or still sorta loose like the ebay ones? One light sometimes blinks off, and I get the error message, but then it goes away and works again. It's happend twice, its been more than 2 weeks since that last happened....

I haven't had any problems with the Hoen bulbs since I installed them last week (knock on wood). I like them. They're a good alternate to the regular OEM bulbs and look better. Because my license Plate is raised a 'bit due to the Euro Trunklid, it doesn't make that much of a difference. We'll see how it looks after I install the Euro plate behind. I'm gonna have to do some custom cuts with my OEM License bracket.

I read that on all w203's the c5w bulbs are 39mm but ive looked around on the net and ive seen website that say the 36mm bulbs are the ones that fit?

i have a 2002 c240, has anyone else purchased new bulbs for their 2002 w203 as proof?

ok, WTF?!?!?!

I JUST got my Hoen order today. I got home at around 11pm tonight and decided to give the install a go.

First thing, I did the license plate lights. The cheap *** eBay bulbs, MELTED part of my license plate frame light housings! So that pissed me off right there. I had to pry a bulb off of the plastic on one of the sides. Then, when I put the Hoens in, they didn't work! They didn't work for squat on BOTH sides!

So I thought maybe I got defective bulbs. I put the bulbs in the M3 and they worked perfectly. I then put the OEM BMW bulbs in the license plate lights of the Mercedes and they worked fine! WTF?!?!?

I also bought the Hoen Endurance (yellow) fog light bulbs for the M3. I took off the stock M3 fog bulbs and then put them on to find out one bulb was DOA! I swapped the bulbs on each side and the one bulb was for sure broken! $*&%*$&%&%*! I'm sooo glad the M3 fogs are really easy to take out, otherwise I would be livid.

you guys KNEW I was going to do this...

so, as my last posts said, I really wasn't able to use the hoens on the w203

but, since my jlevi LED's went out on the M3, I decided to use them there... well, jlevi sent me new replacement LED's today and I put them in and decided to do a little comparison.

just the bulbs (obviously the hoens are on the left and the jlevi LED's are on the right):

the bulbs on and side by side from the rear:

a view of the bulbs directly:

now THAT's why I'm dying to put LED's on the w203...

Yo! Did you ever test out the license plate bulb contacts with a multimeter to see what the ideal resistor would be?

Sounds to me, that it's NOT the HOEN bulbs that are the problem, but rather the plastic frame light housings that got melted by your eBay bulbs.

The HOEN bulbs are a great white-light bulb for this application.

The jlevi LED's look great as a blue-light, but only if they lasted longer than a few months.

HOENs are working awesome on the W203 , CL203 and W163.

Carlos

Phil, any chance you have or can get a pic of both license LEDs from the rear?? Do you consider these really blue or xenon look? Because one of my ebay bulbs has gone out, and I'm about to just do this...lol However I can't have them be really blue....thanks

the led's won't work in the w203 unless you find the right resistors.

they're not as blue as they appear in the pictures, they're more of a xenon 6000k look than anything else. your best bet for the w203 are the hoens.

Oh ok, thanks for the quick response, I thought you had got them fully working with resistors.
