Charcoal Filter on 2002 C240

For the 2002 C240 owners out there, do you know if your car has charcoal filters for the AC? I asked my mechanic and he said yes, but when I tried changing mine, there is a big styrofoam block where the filters are supposed to be. What's the deal? Can anyone clarify this issue for me? Thank you.

Charcoal filters were standard on the c320. Not on the c240. The 240 gets the standard intake filter in the engine bay above the battery. Charcoal filteration cars will have a button on the climate control for the filter.

I had been wondering myself...but once again Sunman made it all clear.

Dude, I've been going to your website and checking out stuff...I'm interested in the digital climate control but don't know much other that what i've read while researching and what you have posted.

How much is the unit?

(sorry if this is a hijack)

Thanks sunman...

That's good info...also saw it on MBenzNL...

I am seriously considering the project...but wanted to know how much the unit is. Both sites doesn't give a price. Thanks anyway.

I found the same situation. A styrofoam block where the filters cover panel should be. Did anyone ever give you an answer?

The styrofoam block means your car doesn't have the Climatronic option which would include the addtional filters. As others have mentioned, it is not standard equipment in the C240, or C230 for that matter. C320 only.

To be honest, the feature is a gimmick. There are aftermarket activated charcoal cabin filters (as in the ones that are installed above the battery) available for a few bucks more. This would've been the simpliest solution, but of course MB had to turn it into a cash grab, and overengineer the crap out of the airbox.

Be glad you don't have the upgraded airbox. All it really means is more failed stepper motors over the years.
