Quote: Honestly, I really don't understand all this hubbub over PIAA W5W bulbs. As noted above, I bought some myself, in spite of their expense, and returned them after finding them less bright than the free ones available elsewhere.

In sum, IMO, the PIAA Xtreme whites are:
1) too expensive
2) NOT as bright as others available.

Buy into the hype if you must...

No, I did not change my harnesses. The 80s have been in for three years now. Others have installed 100W upgrades with varying results... I consider the 80w lamps as a middle ground compromise between 55w and 100w. I recently switched to 2006 HID headlight assemblies and inspected the wiring in the process. They look like new. But I don't drive for extended periods at night, either... seldom more than an hour at a time.
Where do you buy Philips Blue Visions? The only place I see is the UK?
I'd like to try them myself.

The light looks awesome on your car. It has a clean look to it . I changed my daytime running light to PIAA yellow lights. It is different from the others...

I have found them only in the UK through the vendor noted above. However, if you intend to buy other lighting upgrades, they simply throw in the W5Ws, which brings the average cost down for the whole deal... and shipping is included in the prices. I bought my Philips H7 80 Rally lamps from them (something like $32 dollars 3 years ago), so got the W5Ws free, and really like them. I think you can buy just the W5Ws from them, but they're not considered upgrades, so they won't throw in a second set for free.

PowerBulbs.com definitely is a great site to purchase quality bulbs.
Those W5Ws, that Bob is talking about are awesome !
I also recommend NAVIGATOR CyberWhite city lights. 99.9% identical to the PHILIPS Blue Vision.

Love 'em !!

Thanks, Carlos. For a while there, I thought I was the only guy unwilling to drink the PIAA Koolaid!

I did a comparison a while back between the Philips Blue Vison and the PIAA Extreme White Plus. I have to agree with Bob that the Blue Vision is brighter than stock, but it's also has more of a yellow hue to the the lights. I find that the PIAA Extreme White Plus is a closer match to the Xenon. Since I'm already driving with my xenon on at night, the light output of the city lights really doesn't matter to me. Therefore, I went with the PIAA instead of the Philips.

My objective was to find W5Ws that were vastly more bright than stock and not yellow. None of these bulbs match the Xenon light intensity, but I do not find the Blue Visions to be yellow at all, and they definitely are brighter than the PIAAs, imo. I suppose opinions vary.

i don't see any yellow in the PHILIPS Blue Visions or the Navigator Cyber-Whites either.

Here's a pic of mine:

Carlos,

That's strange. Let me try the Blue Vision one more time and take a pic of both Blue Vision and PIAA Extreme White Plus.

Quote: ...If anyone needs to buy any HID lighting products, PowerBulbs.com throws in a set of Blue Vision W5Ws free with other purchases They advertise them as "Side Lights," and you'll see the free offer on their home page. I don't work there, of course, but I've purchased from them twice and they are very good, with competitive prices, etc., and ship from England very promptly.
Can I use the "free" W5W as city lights even though they are advertised as side lights?

Absolutely. I have mine in the City Light sockets, as I have clear side light lenses with amber bulbs behind. You can use the W5W lights in any 5W application where the bulbs fit the socket... they're not tied to one particular use.

The blue tint stays on the PIAA bulbs. I have had the blue tint flake off of cheaper ones.

Quote: Not trying to be mean or not give you info, but this is a topic that's been discussed millions of times on these boards. Seriously, all of the questions you've asked have been asked and answered before. Not trying to shut you up or anything like that.

Just trying to let you know that this thread is redundant to what's been discussed in the past.

As for the bay bulbs you were thinking of purchasing, don't get them. Unless they are from a reputable manufacturer, a lot of these companies make bulbs that will last 3X's less than normal. Not worth it.
Hope this doesn't irritate you but...do you run any other bulbs in your car other than the factory ones?(If so, please list and put some pics up =).) Can somebody help me choose out some a pair of PIAA blue-ish bulbs for the city lights?(from a reputable company of course)

This type of thread has been posted millions of times on here, so I've probably posted my reply in some other ones.

I've got NOKYA Arctic white fog lights.
NOKYA arctic white secondary high beams (only applies to BI-X)
PIAA Extreme white parking light bulbs.

Check my signature below where it says, "Current Mods". I have pictures posted on my yahoo site.

Drex.

ps... If you want to replace the parking lights and want to get as close as possible to the BI-X or HID w/o putting in LED bulbs, go with the PIAA Extreme White bulbs.
