I am planning to get HIDs in the near future and let say I get the dealer to change my setting to "xenon present" now, would my halogens still turn on?
Do people usually change the setting before installing HIDs or after?

But if you dont get a good seal when putting a hole in the plastic part water can condense in there during raining days.. not a big deal IMO tho.

so basically on my 2002 coupe....
**** go to dealer and get car programed for HIDS ********
1. Pop off the plasic cover for the head light
2. drill hole in there....gotta fit wire that connects teh bulb through the ballast.
3. remove H7 halogen bulb and the thing that holds it. Cut the wires (2 wires)
4. Wire up the ballest with the 2 wires that you just cut.
5. Attach the ballast somewhere, I used velcro .... but u can use anything you want
6. Plug the bulb into the ballast.
7. secure the bulb into the the headlight assembly

your done....

~fk

not bad... now I just have to figure out how to do it without them voiding the warranty. With the factory $790.00 option costing $1200 after, it would be nice to get an HID conversion kit for $xxx (the 05 clear headlights look phat enough as it is); but with warranty concerns I guess I'll just have to stick with some fancy 'wanaby' bulbs... perhaps philips, since CATZ is no longer selling in the US.

sigh

theres no way to "hide" the ballast.

if your worried.. get different bulbs... philips for brightness IMO
but if u want blue.. then go anywhere and just change them frequently

if you wanna buy the entire assembly, i've been contemplating this place for a while, but am not too sure about it because they charge an arm & a leg :

http://www.performanceproducts.com/P...producttype=20

however, they do also have the HID conversion kit:

HELP.
So i bought a HID convertion kit(plug and play H7). I tried installing it, but how do i plug the bulb in so it stays in place? Do I need to modify the original metal clip on to my HID bulb?

First, HID kits are crap. If you are going to factory Bi-xenon headlights, I would have a couple of issues. Are C classes wired the same for halogen and hid headlights? If not, you might have an issue later with too much power for your stock wiring. If the wiring is the same, it should be plug and play with no worries.

Question Help: People with aftermarket HID kit (Installation question)

I searched but couldn't find an answer to my specific question.
I purchased an aftermarket HID kit and tried installing it today.
The setting has been changed to "xenon present", so everything works when I tried turning it on.
Only problem is that the plastic clip thing that came with the HID bulbs wont hold the bulbs in place. Do I need to modify the original metal clip or is there another way to have the bulbs clipped on tighly.

TIA

First, what HID kit is it? 2nd, are you this up to your stock wiring. You should use a harness that can handle they amount of power HID use when first turned on. What are your stock bulbs, and what is the bulb on the hid kit?

It's a plug and play kit, so no wire cutting.
My stock bulbs are H7 and the HID convertion kit is also H7.

A couple words of wisdom, granted I don't know if Mercedes wires their cars the same from HID and halogen, but I would recommend a harness so you don't burn your factory wires. Halogen bulbs may run 55 watts and Hid bulbs my run 35 watts, but Hid bulbs draw a lot more power when you first turn them on. I would recommend a harness like the one below. It contains a bosch relay, fuses, a diode, and it is pretty much plug and play as well. It is a lot of reassurance when you think about burning up your wires. Trust me, I have done at least 8 retros from motorcycles to suv's.

I have used the same brand HID on my other car for a while now and it still works fine, so I don't think I'll change the wires.

I just want to know how the bulb can be held firmly.
Thanks

you might have to notch the bulb to make it fit. I would suggest you visit www.hidplanet.com

had to custom a metal clip. Since the original bulb sort of "screws" into the housing,

I had to remove the old bulb... locate the housing thing.. its like 2 metal bars.

THere is a screw that hols teh metal bar. I removed teh screw and put the bulb in with a custom metal clip using the screw as teh anchor point.

Doesnt sound strong, but its worked for a few yrs so far heh.

I kind of know what you are talking about. So the 2 screws can be loosen, and nothing will fall off??
In this case, the bumper needs to be removed, correct?

another heads up, when you put the bulb in, the return wire needs to be facing downward.

In the picture of the bulb, the return wire is the purple wire running from the bulb to the base. These needs to be facing down toward the street when it is in the lamp housing.

HID Kit Problem...but different!

Hi guys,
I got my 02 C320 2 weeks ago and of course my first mod was a 10000K HID Kit. It looks great, but I do have a problem. I Did a search and it showed that some people had a problem where it would turn on, flicker and then turn off. Well for mine, the HID's would flash sorta like police lights for about 10 seconds, and then when the HID warmed up, it will go to normal. I'm wondering whether the HID's just have to be "burned in" like the FAQ says or is this the infamous MB Xenon=present problem? If it's the latter, what's the work around i'm hearing about.

Thanks

Most of the time those HID kits are just crappy japanese kits. You should of purchased some OEM bulbs and ballasts from any other car and would of been better off. If one of those bulbs burn out, good luck finding a replacement.
