Buying & Installing aftermarket HID (Bi-Xenon headlights)

Hello,

I want to get some bi-zenon headlights for my 04' C230 Sport Sedan. Now the OEM ones are hard to find and really $$$$$$$$$. I keep seeing these differnent ones on ebay and they look okay and sounds great (but who really knows, they are just pictures).

Now i am looking for anybody that has installed aftermarket hid headlights and where did they get them?. In addition how was the install was? was there any error messages?, or low beam error messages on the display?

I want the black chrome housings but they are hard to find with HID lighting system already in there.

Also has anybody just purchased projector headlights from ebay then installed a HID lighting system after? how did that go?

Any info would help out alot,

Cheers,

I bought DEPO projector lights on ebay and purchased an HID kit from a MBWorld member in the classifieds. The DEPO headlights are fairly inexpensive and look as close to the OEM BI-Xenons as anything available. The quality is pretty good and I have had no complaints for my 05 c230 SS. If you get any HID kit you may need to go to dealer and have them code "Xenon Present" otherwise you may have problems turning the lights on. However, the kit i got was plug and play and I have put 60000 miles on them with no burnouts, minimal condensation and they still look very nice. The beam pattern takes some adjustment but after some trial and error, my lights are some of the brightest of any car ive been in and have some amazing long-range distance (in my opinion better than the OEM ones). Many will tell you the beam pattern is inferior to the OEM, and it probably is, but if you utilize your fog lights and adjust the beams correctly, you will be very happy. The only downside is they are not glass like the OEM but a hard plastic. Over time, you will need to wet sand and buff them if you want to retain optimal clarity, but if you dont live in an area where theres snow, rain, rocks sand or poor weather, you may not have this problem. Definitely an upgrade from the factory halogen lamps, even the crystal ones like my car came with. any questions send me a PM

Thanks for everybosies replys.

But I looked at the classified and there is only one buyer selling his OEM ones and a 1000.00. And another guy selling his clear OEM stock Mercedes Lights.

But what is DEPO? Sorry new to the HID products, do you mean the headlights should look like the OEM ones with the circle indicator rather then the full top indicator? look at the picture below.

I just need to know before I buy a pair, jokerswld34 did you have to rewire your headlights?

Like i hear about the glass versus the hard plastic, because i hear that they start to melt soon. Plus I do live in Toronto Canada so we do get alot of snow and rain lol.

If you have a direct link off of ebay or website you can send with the picture of the DEPO ones would help out alot. New to this and dont want to buy the wrong ones.

Thanks,

I have a question about Depos. I recently purchased and installed these on my car. Does anyone else notice the projector itself shakes a lot when going over bumps????? Not the light pattern itself, but I can see the light bulbs themself shaking from the light pattern on the ground in front of me AND on street signs.

Any ideas/suggestions?

I know a little about the headlights, but I'm not sure if I've got this right.

My car has xenon bulbs, but the frosted headlight glass. Can I keep my bulbs and use the DEPO assembly? Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I've read a ton of posts about the headlights and I'm not sure if what I have is a HID kit or if it will work.

Hello everyone. I would greatly appreciate your help. I just bought a pair of projector "plug and play" bi-xenons off ebay. These to be exact...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...254853060&rd=1

They were recomended by someone on here who bought the ones with the black housing. I bought the ones with the 6000K pure white and chrome housing. They look fantastic but after dissasembling my entire left headlight assembly i learned that the highbeam on these doesnt have the stock copper clip that holds it in place? What gives? Is this normal in these after market lights and to the people/person who recomended this particular brand, how did you solve this issue?

Also, im not entirely sure because i didnt get that far, but it also seems the connector cord isnt the same as the stock connector. Just a big box wired to the new projector light? How do i go about plugging them in?

Thanks, Jeb.

Same with mine. I was able to take the clips from some previous projector lights which were broken and simply use the screws that are already in place, if that is the case. If you can't get it perfectly still, use some electrical tape to do the best you can, my high beams don't move an inch, but I was also confused as hell wondering why there was no clip....

Just read the 1st post, cut and paste print and show whoever is doing the programming.
I just had this done.
Only slight difference was the wording, it didn't show EIS,
I think it just said "ignition switch" but it was obvious.

Has anyone used these particular headlights before or dealt with this seller? Nice price but are they worth it. I like the black ones preferable.

Thanks in advance for your input.

These are noting but Junk. The housings and reflector are not able to produce a correct beam angle. They say that they fit all c class from 01 to 05. This cannot be true since Coupes need a different housing. The housings will not fit well with your sheet metal. They will look cheap on your car. The lamps are rebased rejects that will have a very short life, around 200 versus 2000 for OEM lamps. If the igniter (sometimes called the ballast) goes bad (and it will) replacement is not readily available. The wire interconnecting the igniter and the lamp is not made of quality materials, and will have a short life in an automotive application. The lamps being rebased will be difficult to find, if at all. The color temperature I have measured with similar kits is only 5000K.

They are not legal for road use, and they greatly impare your ability to see.

Genuine housings and igniters are the only way to safely switch to HID lamps.

Please check with a forum sponsor MbenzNL.com for oem parts, and professional installation in the bay area. You will be safer and money ahead.

search for clear headlight housing from the 05+ coupes and then get a seperate HID kit for it. it'll look 10 times better than getting those even if they have a coupe fitment.

Im going to try and put mine in this weekend. I figured out the deal with the highbeam bulbs, there are two screws that have to be loosened and then two hinges on the bulb that slid under the screws, you then tighten em a bit to keep the bulb in place. Kinda rigged for $500.00 lights huh? I might try and take the copper holder off my OEM's and see if i can retro fit it onto the HID's. With the condition of my local roads it seems those two little screws might not do the trick.

I also figured out that the box thingy i mentioned is the ballasts and saw in the earlier posts where to mount them so i should be ok. I dont think i will mount the drivers side that close to the ESP though.

Sorry, but i have one more question for everyone.

It has to do with the turn signal bulb. My HID's have the same circular bulb holder as my OEM's or so it seems. The only difference is my OEM bulbs are hardwired through the back of the circular holder. Am i supposed to use my OEM signal bulbs/holder that are already hardwired on my new HID assembly? or do i need to get new bulbs and try and hardwire them through the back of my new circular holders? Hope i made sense.

Thank you all so much.
Jeb.

Ok, they are installed finally! Took maybe 4 hours, the damn fender/bumper clip is pretty hard to get back on correctly with the inner fender always getting in the way! Hardwired Turn signal bulb fit right into the new assembly all i had to do was buy some W5W bulbs for little light under the highbeam, i wish it was white though and not yellow.

My only question now is how the heck to adjust the beams? The passenger side seems like its pointed lower then the drivers side? Anyone have a good idea on how to do this?

Oh and they look sick!
Will take some pics later.

Thanks again.

not sure if there is one, but you don't really need it. It's very easy, if you know how to change light bulb, then you shouldn't have problem.
