DIY - Fuel Filter Replacement
The car does have 125k on it, but I find it hard to believe that the pump all of a sudden has problems after the filter is changed.
BTW, the tech I spoke to said that he had seen a few defective filters and that they can make noise if it is leaking past the diaphragm.
Any recommendations on where to get a filter?
Anyways...no more humming noise.
I'm going to take the filter back to the dealer, but I'm not holding my breath on getting anything back.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
Went to the dealer to return my fuel filter today...got there at 12:35pm to find out that parts takes lunch from 12-1 so I had to wait half an hour. Told the parts guy that I wanted to return the filter and he said since I didn't have the original packaging that he could not do anything until the parts manager got in on Mon. I told him that I live 40 miles away, he said there was nothing he could do. I asked for the service manager (he said he wasn't there), then the general manager. The GM came and said that they would have to test the fuel filter first (how he was going to do that I'm not sure). He came back after talking to a technician and asked exactly what the symptoms I was having. I told him that I was getting a high pitched humming noise, he said that the tech had only seen one other defective filter and it was making that exact sound. The GM said they will reimburse me via the mail.

As a recommendation I would remind kvidal661 to use the fuel injection hose clamps you can get at the auto parts store. You'll probably need the two smallest sizes (sorry can't remember which ones I bought). I think they clamp the hose a bit better than the standard worm gear type clamp although they would probably work, too. Of course, maybe I'm missing the trick for reusing the standard MB hose clamps!

The M271 4 cylinder uses a different fuel injection system from the M112, M113, M272 V6 engines. Fire wall & purge valve back is identical though with the exception of filter in tank on AMG C32 & newer M272 engined cars.

Glyn, I think I think I forgot to relieve the fuel pressure on one of my cars and it was a shock when I loosened one of the hose clamps at the filter. I would advise relieving the pressure (wonder what other use there is for the schrader valve?), but it's not a huge deal. It's just nicer.
