Not Start in Cold Weather
I have a 2001 MB C-Class C320 that i recently purchased I traded in my 2002 bmw 325i for this car. I love the car. I like that ride the luxury amenities. basically everything about the car is great except one. It will not start in cold weather. I am talking about 40 deg F. I have to either wait till it gets warmer outside or I have to leave the key that stopped working in the ignition. I have saw all the threads regarding this problem with people mentioning the obvious which are make sure the battery is good and make sure the remote batteries are good. well done that. then people start saying stuff that makes no sense or clearly shows that the individual responding to the thread doesnt have anything pertinent to say but says something anyway. If you are one of those people please dont respond to this thread. Only intelligent responses please. Since I dont have alot of money at this time I have resorted to a simple fix. I have found that heating the inside of the car with a heater after about 10-15 minutes the key will turn which allows me to start the car with my smart key. I have also resorted to only parking my car in the garage and when I am away from home ie work. i have to start the car every 3 1/2 to 3 3/4 hours so i am not embarrased and the doors dont open and you know the rest. if anyone has a permanent fix please respond. thank you.

So just to clarify, the smartkey will not turn in the ignition if the inside of the car is cold? At first I thought you meant the engine just wouldn't start. That's certainly a weird ignition issue. I'm interested to know what causes this as well.

I did not like the tone of your first post which is why I did not respond. Now you've been rude to one of the respected members of this forum. You need to take a long, hard look at yourself - apologise - or please do us all a favour and go elsewhere

Mr. martin.roberts2 - Try changing the batteries in all three keys. Search the forum for instructions.

unintended disrespect
I did not intentionally disrespect anyone. Nor did I intend to be disrespect. I merely hoped for an overflow of intelligence not a blatant cry for attention from a bunch of insecure introverts who choose insults over results. Oh, and yes there are mannnny people who have this same problem. so again, please speak what you know and not what imagine. again, thank you all.

A little off topic but I use to work at a water utility in New York City for an arrogant person with a similar name to the original poster of this thread. He was basically at war with every one of his workers outside of his small circle. Very little work was accomplised during his 8 year tenure in my unit. This retard was eventually promoted to the Deputy Commisioner of the agency. Shows where the American workplace is headed.

in reply to mr "a little off topic"
this is not a chat line or dating service and from the sound of your statement your very old and nobody cares or is willing to be patient to listen to your back in the days stories so quit it. not here. do that funky stuff somewhere else. we dont want to be buddies with you. we want to fix our issues and share our joy of owning such a great piece of machinery. sorry!

Well you're still not man enough to apologise & your English communication could do with a touch of polishing. I notice your "bull in a china shop" antics & abrasive behaviour on other threads.
This is not a common problem or half the taxis in Germany would be at a standstill. That said:
You require a new EIS & keys. The module is failing & the inductive PS that powers the IR unit in your key has come to the end of it's useful life. (warming helps this condition). Had you done your homework you would know that you bought the worst C320 you could possibly have. This was at the start of the W203 production cycle. These cars were computer endurance tested (virtual) and never saw durability testing on the road. Early units were extremely troublesome - especially in the electronics area. These problems were worked out in production over time & due to warrantee experience.
This repair will cost approx. US$ 1700
Should you have any further questions please don't hesitate to ask politely! - Good luck.

Please learn to control unnecessary emotional outbreaks. lets leave our feminine side at home and just let the manly side come out on this forum. appreciate it. name calling is juvenile, and being so unnecesarily pissed of is very chick like. sorry I call it like it is. I hope you feel better

I appreciate that. you are right I didnt do my homework and I did make sort of an impulse buy. I in no way want to be rude. and I have apologized for it. unlike many others, you actually deserve an apology. because you didnt attack me. I appreciate that. you know the old saying "ignorance is expensive" so now I will have to pay. at the very least I have a starting point. I wish you would have replied sooner. Thanks again.
although I am sure you can sympathize with me after reading some of the replies that people leave on this forum

The W203 & W211 (E class) of this era cost Benz dearly thinking that they could do simulated endurance testing. W204 was back to the good old ways of onroad testing - much of it in South Africa & Namibia with the exception of winter testing. Done in the arctic circle.
I happen to agree with mleskovar. Assumption is the mother of all f---ups when it comes to troubleshooting and many other things - especially by remote control!

Nonesense. The IR unit in the key is inductively powered from the EIS like your Sonicare toothbrush charger. You can start the car without any batteries in the key.

see what I mean
Hey Glyn,
do you see what I mean. Although I think this noreaga guy was just being jestful. I checked some other eis posts/threads and I think you are on it dog gone it. again, thanx. I am also impressed on how you managed to insult me in a nice way. talk about the pot calling the kettle black. I thought that was pretty entertaining, yet boring at the same time. not slick, definitely old school. I will disregard your insults because you gave good advise. again thank you.

Had to give you a taste of your own medicine. Don't worry - we South African's live on a diet of robust interaction - Skins like Rhinos - I don't know about "old school" - old fart maybe. "ENOUGH OF THE OLD" I feel like I'm 29

BTW - Remember you need a STAR DAS to encode the keys to the EIS
