Wheew nice price. I shoulda waited haha. Bought my header used, got the new cat from Cory a few months ago. Paid a little more overall, but it's still worth it when the sound matures a bit. I still have the stock exhaust, but am considering changing it (or maybe resonator?) this summer to try and get a deeper tone (I put video youtube links in my car's thread on benzworld [same user name] for those interested).

Cory - Do you have anything else for the M271 or just the headers/cat?

....sounds awesome!

Stick shift or auto?
Do you feel a lot different in acceleration?
Any other modifications?

Whoooooooo mine just arrived today and I went out to get quotes on installation. Fitting and installation plus adding flanges just in case I want to go back to stock, was quoted to be $545.00 at my local shop.

What prices are you guys looking at for installation and are you guys gonna flange your system in case you need to get smogged?

No flange because don't decide on going back to stock and there are no emission laws up here. Installation is DIY.

I checked with a couple reputable shops in the LA area and the most someone was charging to install was $200 without the flanges. I don't know if it should cost that much more to weld on a couple flanges...

Ordered mine earlier today, cant wait to get it... Im not gonna do the flanges. If the car doesn't pass smog, ill deal with it then, but i think it will..

Yeah I was quoted $200 without flanges as well at my local shop.

Well if you guys aren't going to worry about smog, i guess ill worry about it when the time comes. Saving $300 bucks is on the top of my list

Like how high do I need to lift it? Will just a jack or 2 be ok?

installed this morning!

i was really tempted to tackle this on my own at a friend's garage... but after having it professionally installed and watching the whole process, i am very satisfied. if anything... i highly recommend getting yours professionally installed and get the pipe welded.

to answer your question, i also did NOT have a gasket to fit between the headers and cat. it was listed in the PDF, so i was pretty disappointed. this ended up in a big headache, but scott at hi-flo really helped me out. we were able to find a replacement gasket (metal) and everything worked out in the end.

attached are a few pics... and more to come

for those of you in the northern virginia/DC-metro area... i highly recommend hi-flowcustoms. they do amazing work and the guy is straight forward and honest. he's worked on mercedes before, drives an e55amg, and has had m5's and other solid cars in his shop. here is their info:

overall reaction to headers/cats:

-very satisfied with the gains
-mostly feel it in the mid range of rpm's, especially when the boost kicks in
-goes very well with sprint booster and manual transmission
-i would buy this product again (but demand a gasket!)

i definitely took the scenic route home... and can't wait to drive again...

Just like i mentioned before, you need the gasket to fit it, otherwise you cannot connect the headers and downpipe.. so Cory was wrong, just what i thought....

Think there wont be any diff. I have the clamp and there's no leaking!

@ midnight:

Havent you put the heath shield back above the headers??

I think it's better for the cables/harness!!! Because these headers getting hotter than the oem ones....

have fun with the headers man, every time you drive it's FUN

how is the sound???

Actually he's not wrong, it works just fine without the gasket. It seals as soon as it gets hot which is exactly how it is designed. Having a gasket is not a bad thing but it probably wont last long.

the gasket only cost me $8 from an auto supplies store, and it was solid metal... perfect fitment too. its better to have it than not.

i am just disappointed that it was not included in the original kit.

crap... i didn't keep the receipt, but i can ask again when i go back to put on the heat shield.

there wasn't a specific part number. it was just a standard gasket, but metal. there were fiber ones and when i tried that it melted fast. so we had to go with metal. dont quote me on this, but i'm pretty sure it was 2.5''. i'll give you confirmation on that next week.
