2006 C230 Sport whine, normal or bad?

Hey everyone, my car has this whine that sounds like its supercharged but its not. Is this a normal thing or do I need to worry about this?

did that on my car too for awhile. it was some tensioner for the drive belt. There is a TSB for this but i think you have to get it done before factory warranty expires. I do not believe they extended it. Not really a problem though just makes noise so they updated the part.

TSB = Technical Service Bulletin. Basically Mercedes found a problem or have been reported a problem with a alot of that certain model but it's not a safety issue so they dont have to recall. Makes it easier for the techs working on your car and saves them diagnostic time when they are already pre-aware of the problem. And the TSB tells them how to fix it. Sometimes they extend the warranty on that item as well but thats very rare.

More than likely its just the upper engine belt idler pulley. If you still have a warranty on the car, just take it in and any tech should be able to know what it is just from hearing the car run.

My c240 has it. My brother thought I was being a poser and put one of those blower "whistles" in my exhaust tip. Haha. But anyway, MB had mentioned it was harmless, like my ticking purge valve that sounds horrendous. Oh well. I'll live with it. Good thing you're still under warranty.

How do I go about this? Sheet of rubber between the valve bracket and whatever it's mounted on?

Haha, this is just purge valve blues again with Glyn like a few months before. Updated bracket was of no use..

How's your purge valve, Glyn? Still quiet?

Yes - put rubber under the bracket. My valve is dead quiet - Glyn - San Diego
