Oil Change?

Hey guys, Service B in less than 100miles...

I tried searching the forums for what oil, but I saw that it sometimes varied of the engine and temps of where you live.

I have a 2003 C240 2.6L V6. What engine model do I have??
and here in Arkansas, lowest it ever gets is 18degrees and highest 100-105 Fahrenheit.

Im at 96-98k miles. Forgot Should I change the spark plugs? and the air filter? since im about to hit 100k?

Do MB dealers have oil filters usually in stock?

I just need to know what kind of oil will suit my car best (Mobil 1 but something like 0w-40???)
and perhaps sparkplugs and airfilter too.

Hit me up guys, tell me what to get so I can take it to a indy shop instead of the dealer.

Check out the DIY threads. Mobil 1 0W- 40. It never hurts to change out the plugs, air filter, and cabin filter. Most MB dealers will have oil filters in stock, they run about 12-15 I believe.

To find out what is required on a Service B check, look at the service manual for your car. If you don't have one, download it from the Mercedes website (www.mbusa.com). The basic items are the same, but there are additional items dependent on the mileage.

ok you need to do
1.oil change synthetic filter with mobil 1 0-w40 European sepc
2. spark plugs all 12
3. fuel filter
4. trans fluid and filter (all of it not the 5quarts like some places like doing. I think there is 12 or so.)
5. Rear diff fluid
6. air filters
7. cabin air filter
8. I would check brake fluid make sure it is still good
9. check belts hoses...
10. Check all other fluids like coolant probably needs flush, along with power steering fluid.

get your filters and other supplies from http://www.rmeuropean.com/ best place ever lol there are a few other good places but this is the best one i have found.

This is everything i recomend doing if you want your car to run for the next 100k troble free
i am at 148k with mine and did almost all of that right around 100k and have had no issues with my car besides worn out shocks. I need to do power steering, water pump with coolant flush, break fluid. But those can wait till 155k when my car gets lots of gifts lol

lol that is when you get your first high mileage award. and i plan to give lots of gifts to my car when i get there. Repaint at least the hood if not more, rims, always said suspension but that is getting done this weekend hopefully, i will do water pump and probably alternator as preventive maintenance. An all out cleaning/ buffing. New windshield that is not pitted beyond your wildest dreams. i think that is it but it might change i hope i have the cash for all that. The paintwork is one of the most important things the hood is in bad shape as well as the front bumper. My front bumper has two fog ligths that are both not right at the moment. one is glued in by the dam body shop and the other is like falling out lol i think a screw came loose have not had time to take a look at it only one mount seems to be working at this point so i don't know. I would like to get the amg front bumper and just be done with my current one but that gets expensive.

You have to use Mobil1 0w-40. It's a european forumula I changed my oil today. The drain plug was a PITA! Used a K&N oil filter.

It's a 229.3 approved oil so you should be ok. Note: Newer cars should use 229.5 approved oils.

I thought even the pre-facelifts called for 229.5. What "guy" do you speak of giving it to you? They sell 229.5-approved Mobil1 0W-40 in Wal-Mart - it couldn't be easier.

You should invest in a fluid evacuator, makes changing fluids a breeze. I have one that can suction out the fluid or pump it in.

In your owner's manual, the oil specification is listed. OW40 is what it reccomends, according to my 2005 manual. Very easy to find at any auto parts store or Walmart.

"Meo" and his buds are family friends that own a huge detailing and tune-up shop here. His whole family always had German cars, they knew alot about them, especially his father.

He said since here in AR, the temps never get rough, so 5w would be perfectly fine.

He called AAP because they did delivery, I guess thats why.

As long as it had the eurospec, I thought it was perfectly fine.

Advance Auto Parts sells the appropriate oil - Mobil1 0W-40. Apparently your family friends don't know that much about this stuff. It's pretty common on this forum but I've never understood it. People know the car calls for 229.5 approved oils, specifically Mobil1 0W-40 is recommended - it's widely available and not expensive yet people buy other brands and weights. I don't care which cousin's brother's uncle's friend's wife's husband says about weather and weights and what will or will not be fine, I'm getting the oil that Mercedes (who built the car) tells me to. I think they'd know best.

How simple is this? Mobil1 0W-40. On the back it will say MB Approval 229.5.

229.3 is old, and 229.51 is diesel - FYI. It's like beating our heads against the wall on this stuff.

Not exactly. Generally speaking, yes, but on top of the weight, Mercedes Benz engines need the proper approved oil to not only protect the engine, but to do it for the extended change intervals. You should ONLY use approved oils that meet or exceed those of your particular engine. This time you're ok, I believe your engine needs 229.3 spec oil, and what you have meets that spec. Newer cars need 229.5 oil, and the Castrol 5w-40 you used does not meet the newer spec.

He should double check, though. I thought Glyn had said before that the M112 in the W203 also should use 229.5.

If memory serves me right, 229.5 oils were introduced some time in 2002 ish time frame. The M112 engine however, was at least 2 years old at that time. I do believe using a 229.5 oil is best for the engine, however, I believe when it was introduced, 229.3 was the recommended spec, and should suffice.

MB dealer near me uses 5W-40 for 2007 C280. I asked specifically and they said 5W-40 meets the requirements for this car.

Walmart carries 5W-40. During my recent trip to Walmart, I've seen 5 Liters jug [Mobil 1 full synthetic] for $21. I have not seen a better price in the recent past.

97W202, if you are driving near/around a Walmart, go in and buy couple of jugs of Mobil1 (Synthetic) and keep them until your next oil change.

When you are about to change oil, you may or may not find the same price; they may or may not have 5W-40 in stock at the time... etc. Oil doesn't go bad even if you don't use it for years :-)
