Dipstick tube on back of motor = ATF?

It is my understanding that this tube is for checking the ATF fluid level, is this correct? Secondly, is there supposed to be a cap or no cap? I thought I had read that there should be a cap on it that breaks when you take it off and therefore have to replace it each time, but wanted someone to clarify first. Lastly, if there's supposed to be a cap, anyone have the part number?

Thanks in advance (pic below)

Figures...the manual only states to check engine oil level via the panel in the cluster and mentions absolutely nothing about a dipstick! (unless I over looked it). Happen to know the part number?

Thanks Glyn!

You need to check it against your VIN. I was slightly pulling your leg. Some cars had no dipstick - only the panel check. Some cars had both. Cars with M272 quadcam engine had only a dipstick & a low oil indicator. No electronic dipstick.

Your car might never have had a dipstck but then it should have a red cover over that tube. The electronic level sensor works well in my experience.

Please do not confuse the ATF & engine oil tubes.

Some cars had a dipstick & some cars had a red cap - some black. The auto gearbox tube has always had a black cap with a red tab.

Yeah, Glyn cleared it all up. I just figured since it was capless and I knew you had to buy the dipstick/fluid level checker for the ATF that it may've been it. Just worried because it's not capped or anything. I don't like the idea of debris falling down that tube!

You must cap that tube. You don't want crap getting in the sump.

RMeuropean have it for a whole $5.46

Awesome, much appreciated man!

I'm attempting to get the dealer to give me a dipstick, since it was just purchased about a month ago, but they're taking their sweet time. Worst case scenario, I at the least get a cap for it for the sake of my sanity and my motor's well being.
