Hey guys n' gals,

Recent front end work (removal of strut assembly) made my ABS light go on, and instrument panel say no ABS no ESP and no BAS.

I have the scan tool to scan can data bus and pin pointed to right front ABS sensor. Yes i might have done something to it like knock it around, pulled it or what ever. What i need to know is how to remove this sensor from the inner fender well side not the axle side. You know where its connected into the wire harness. Does it just pull out? Also same plug is the brake pad wear sensor too.

Any help is appreciated, Thanks,

Rom

Hello,

maybe... somebody can ask their mechanic friend how does it come out? I really would not want to start pulling and bust something that might cost more money. Its been raining here in California and my ABS and ESP is non functioning. feels like i am driving my old 86 mustang.

Any body?

Happy Thanks giving all.

That has to be the wheel motion sensor and it's just held in by one small bolt. Follow the wires going to the hub area and one should lead you to it. There's not much to it, it's just a magnetic pick up. Check to make sure the wire isn't broken as well.

Thanks for the reply guys but to remove the strut assembly I have already removed the cylinder end from the axle/spindle. My problem is removing the other end to the inner fender well. The electrical socket where the brake pad wear sensor is located. I looks like its a single piece but then the pictures of the sensor shows that it just unplugs. looking for somebody that can verify if they have also removed this sensor completely from the vehicle. I really don't want to start pulling and prying and break more stuff.

Ya'll know what i mean. break = $$$ or just more $$$.

Thanks,

Rom

Take some pictures and do some call-outs of the affected areas. Knowledgeable people will tell you in which picture, and where, and what to look for.

Attempts are appreciated. A good light and 2megapixel is not bad.

Got some pics.

You can see where the connector connects to the inner fender well. Right side plug is ABS sensor and left side is brake pad sensor how do you pop this out?

BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! while removing the wheel to get the shot i noticed the wheel bearing was lose. So i pop off the cap and tightened the nut so there is no looseness. Part of the work i did was wheel bearing replaced along with new seals, races, bearing cage, set nut, set pinch bolt and cap. I don't have my carsoft scanner (left laptop at work) so i cant reset the abs light.

Question still stands on how to remove the connector, and new question arises....

lose wheel bearing = ABS light??? don't know. and if that was the problem will the light go out by itself because it now has the proper signal?

Thank you all for at least looking And happy Thanksgiving too ALLL!!!!

update,

Yes lose wheel bearing make ABS light go on. now with proper wheel bearing preload the hub does not get lazy. now when i start the car and go below 7 MPH and ABS light goes out but when i apply the brakes ever so slightly the ABS motor pulses. After hitting faster that 25MPH the light comes back on and stays on. When slowing down no more ABS motor pulse, but ESP and ABS are compleatly disabled.

So my question is still out there, how to remove ABS wheel speed sensor in the front from the inner fender well side. pictures are above.

Thanks and hopefully everybody had a nice thanks giving.

Maybe you just need to perform the abs/esp calibration method to get the warning to go away as opposed to trying to replace the sensor? :x

Removing front wheel sensor from fender well
There is a metal clip holding it in along with the brake wear sensor. I pushed down on the clip until I saw it bulging out a little bit at the bottom right corner(like a little metal tail). Then I took a flat head screwdriver(can use a pair of pliers to hold it if you can get in there with enough grip) and pulled out and up on it which freed it from its locking position and then got it out from the other side. When you go to put it back on you just line it up with the groove it came out of and push down on it and it pops back into place. It can be aggravating but it isn't extremely hard.

ABS Sensor Wires!
Can anyone tell me where or how to find a PART NUMBER for the male portion of the ABS/ Brake Pad Sensors?

Mine are missing the male connector part that you would plug the brake pad sensor into.

I can order the sensor, but I have nothing to plug it in to!

The picture someone has posted is the part that I am talking about.

CAN ANYONE HELP???!!

I followed your instructions line by line and it worked.Sorted and replaced my sensor by myself and have the code cleared through a scanner. Thanks for the time and effort you put in tutorial.

Great writeup, did you all got the sensors from MB dealer?

The sensors should still be available from the dealer.
A halfway decent code reader such as iCarsoft will tell you the status of the sensors FYI.
Though I am not entirely satisfied with iCarsoft and looking for something else.
It won't clear my SRS error after steering wheel swap. Arrgh. No one around here has
SDS.
