well, I do drive fast, I always reach 180Km/h and I do take hard corners.

would I notice anything different if I had some different tires?

My Pilot Sports were in excellent shape at 15,500 miles. Then I used them at an autocross. The rears are not so excellent now. But I did have a lot of fun.

My Yoko AVS ES 100's just arrived at my installer from TireRack! I'll get them put on next week sometime and post some impressions. BTW-TireRack was $50 less per tire than anyone I could find locally. That's a savings of $200 for those of you who are mathmatically challenged.

*The installer I'm using has 2 Diablos-one of them a Lambo Challenge car, so I get to drool over those while I'm waiting...

You will find that these tires will get VERY loud and are prone to wearing unevenly. P7000 is one of pirelli's older tire designs. There is newer better tires out today.

how many miles do you have on your conti sports?
Sorry I linked the wrong tire. I actually have the P7000 superSports.

I'm almost embarrased that I'm taking my C-Coupe to Karl to have cheap-*** tires installed.

I'll try to get some first hand pics as well.

You don't need to be embarrased about installing Yokohama's on your coupe. Just because the ES100's are less expensive than others does not make them cheap-*** tires. They are supposed to be pretty good tires, so I guess you can call them reasonably priced. I will probably be putting them on my car next spring.

what's wrong with ES100... I'm planning on getting those tires because it has the best tread wear rating out of all the sports tires while being cheap.

It was kinda meant as a joke. I did a lot of research, and that's what I came up with for overall value and performance. Actually, the installer highly recommended the Sumitomo's as well. Here's a test of the Yoko's /Sumitomo's / Khumo's:

quick question about spare tire

I was wondering how long those spares can be on the car. Basically I need to put the spare on my car for about 2 weeks while my wheel is being repaired. Im not even planning on driving the car in those 2 weeks, just to pick them up when they are ready, thats about it.. Would it be okay to leave the spare on there for that long??

See Garage
There is a yellow sticker on the face of the spare that answers your questions... I don't have it in front of me, but I believe there are limitations (warnings) about driving for extended mileage and at elevated speeds.

If you are simply going to use the spare to hold the car up for two weeks (not much driving-less than 100 miles or so) then I imagine your spare will be as happy sitting on your hub as it would be chilling in the spare tire well. Just watch the speed you drive with it.... someone help with the maximum speed info.

I'm pretty sure that it's 50mph, kemosabe.

If I were you, I'd get it home and put it on a jackstand on that corner for the two weeks instead. Or, at a minimum, double check the tire pressure when you go to drive the car to pick up the fixed rim.

Tires keep chirping

Ok i was wondering if any of you with a 02 C230k had problems with your tires chirping. Since i brought my car out from the dealer a couple weeks ago i noticed whenever i accelerate little harder than normal around a corner (from a standstill) i will chirp the tires. Also, i was reversing up hill once and i really peeled out.

i'm not sure why this is all i know is i had complained about the ESP light going off and staying on durning my last trip to the dealer. they reset the computer and replaced a sensor or another.. Since then i keep chirping the tires. what can be the problem? (btw.. i have good tire pressure and still much tread left on the tires)

I chirp my tires regularly also. I simply thought it was the tires (Michelin Pilot AS) but there hasn't been any signs of irregular tire wear.

I chirp the tires too, but it happens most often when I floor the gas...

Seriously, pavement/tire contact can really affect it. In the college parking lot, there's a lot of painted "no parking" patches, and the tires really squeal every time I hit those while turning.

And don't forget, we're talking about max torque at 2500 RPMs, so it's not that hard to spin the tires from a stop, especially while turning or on an incline. If you want to cut back on the noise, maybe you might want softer rubber (like S-03s?).

i like the chirp. it sounds sexy. don't know why you want to get rid of it. the tires are not like melting or anything like that. by the way, mine only chirp on cleaned up roads. like after it rains or in the garage.

Yea.. i'm planning on getting new rims and tires soon.. But it seems more recent that i'm getting the chirp which is why i was confused.

I personally don't like the sound when i'm rounding the corner and accelerating a little, maybe if i really stomp on it, yea it'd be nice to hear, but not at the speeds i'm doing it at. I feel like i'm trying to show off in the car, which i'm not, and i don't like the attention it brings..

of course it is nice when i do want the attention, then i can really make the tires squeal

I don't like the chirping. Makes me feel like I'm losing control of the car.

I don't get any chirping, but then again I have 40lbs of air in the tires and they just spin with no sound, other than a whirring sound.

I hate the stock Conti tires on the C7, but they saved me once again...

I hated that my car came with Contis...but they have saved me 3 times already.

The latest, last night, I decided to go to McDonalds because I was dying for a drink. I went through the drive-tru and ordered a large coke. I was going around the bend to the window and somehow rubbed the tire against the curb...I guess i wasn't paying attention or I was tired. I knew I hit the rim, I just hoped the damage wasnt that bad. I got my soda, pulled into a space to check the damage...to my surprise, none.

This is the 3rd or 4th time that I have rubbed without hurting the rim. These tires have a large rubber lip...i love it. I've had plenty of rims and tires that are 17" but these seem to protect the best.
