Edit: I found a thread from a while back where CarLAB was selling these wheels for dirt cheap and the guy (Darwin I believe?) listed the specs as having 32 and 35 offsets, those would be much more ideal than what I am looking at now. Everyone here, including me runs 265/30's in the rear because it gives you more clearance in the fender. I would definately keep your old set up if it worked fine for you and not try other stuff.

Have them send you the right ones. Might save you alot of headaches and problems later.

265/30's are already 2% larger overall diameter than stock. 265/35's may rub significantly.

265/35's are 6.4% too large in overall diameter.

It turns out that the CostCo guy wrote the wrong size down on the receipt but he entered the correct size in the order. So I have some 265/30s coming my way after all. BTW, CostCo didn't blink about the special order. The local performance tire store after I described my tires said that they'd call me back. And didn't. What, they don't want my tire business every 15k?

Where do you live exactly? My experiences from Costco pricing on performance tires are very bad. They charge a lot more than other places as well. Tire Rack has had better prices than them on most occasions.

how much of a difference do you guys think 10mm will make visually in terms of tire width?

I'm running 265/30/19's (Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's) on the w203 on a 19x9" rim and 275/30/19's (Michelin Pilot Sport 2's) on the M3 with a 19x9.5" rim...

Do you think the 275's will be that noticeable?

Ha, well just went 10mm over on my rear, but they're 17.
255/40/17....they are FAT. 10.2" wide I think. And they just fit.
A harsh bump give a slight rub.
I cranked my TEIN SS's shocks down to zero.
Problem solved. Well until I haul some cargo.

Not very noticeable till you stand behind the car. FAT!

Would i be able to use 255/45 R 17? (Dunlop Winter Sport M3 if it makes a difference)

Hey Phil, realize that not all tires are cut equally. Depending on the brand, some are certainly cut wider than others. What I'm trying to say is... it depends.

Even with the size of the rims, your real concern should be with what won't mess up your speedometer and give you drastically inaccurate readouts for your speed.

I've added the tire size calculators on the first post of this thread (as well as the aftermarket wheel thread).

Just to make sure I'm understanding what you want to do, you want to run non-staggered tires 255's all around. Okay, that alone makes me and tells me you didn't read through this thread at all.

That being said, even if you were only referring to using 255's in the rear, you want to use a 45 series tire when the rims already have a 40 series tire on the car? According to the tire size calculator, when your speedo says 60mph, you will actually be travelling 63.2 mph.

If you want to go with a non-staggered tire setup for "winter" (non-staggered), I'd suggest getting a set of rims/tires specifically for that purpose. Your 255/45R17 setup that you want will not work for the front, nor will it work accurately for the rear.

Are we talking 205/45 up front and 225/45 in the rear?

Staggered is just as it sounds (i.e. different width).

Use the tire size calculators. Trust me, it is very easy. You plug in the size of your OEM tire. Then you can plug in any variation for the different tire you want to see what will work right.

So I cracked one of my rims on the freeway. I wanted to replace the one rim but deiced to look for a full set locally. I own a 2003 C320 Coupe with the 16's and locally I see a set of 2006 C230 rims, and stated the sizes of the wheels are 2 front size 225 45 ZR 17, and 2 rear size 245 40 ZR 17 . I believe its from a sedan .I know nothing about wheels and just wanted to know if these will fit. I would think if its from the same series it will fit? Thanks in advance.

errr, few hundred bucks is kind of a big deal....considering an oil change is as pricey as it is it helps to save where we can. $$$$ doesn't always mean good. Compare tire prices and reviews. you'll see.

hi there. Can you get Hankook tires in the State? It's Korean too and cost slightly more than Kumho. We, here in South Eastern Australia do not have really cold weather winter minimum 8 deg C. So, I'm considering a Hankook or Kumho Ecsta SPT. BTW Michelin is no longer in F1 so, is Bridgestone better? (Japanese tires)
The tire speed rating will never be reached driving here. The demerit points for speeding (some roads during school days are now 40km/h! and shopping area 50km/h) will soon cancel your driving licence.

you can also try General Exclaim UHP, according to tire shops they are chaper than Kumho and also performs better than Kumho

I have General Exclaim UHP tires on my 2005 C230 SS. They've been great for the past 15,000 miles. I got them from Tire Rack for a great price. My OEM tires were Continental, and Continental owns General (originally an American company).

The reviews on Tire Rack were pretty good, and that was good enough for me.

I have the Kumho AST's on my ride with the mfg tire pressure specs at 32psi in the rear and 28psi in the front. They are wonderful in the summertime but the traction (in my experience) during rain is horrible. I've found that I need to be very passive with the throttle (and cornerning) to keep the ESP from lighting up like a christmas tree. Maybe I got what I paid for this time around, but I'll be getting the Goodyear Eagle F1 DS-G3's next time

A few hundred bucks isn't a big deal. If I was worried about a few hundred bucks I wouldn't have bought a European car, I would have purchased a Domestic car or a Japanese car. I've compared reviews and PS2's always come out towards the top.

I have the Generals on mine and they are great in the rain. First set lasted @ 35K the backs were on the wearbars ( to much stoppin it) the fronts could have gone another 15K. I liked them so much I got another set.

I have not posted anything here in a long time, mainly because my first posts were all about accessories, etc. Through information here we obtained a back hatch liner that has been superb. I can't think of what the rear carpet would have looked like without it! We got a front clear bra and that has worked out swell.

Now, the car is nearing 30,000 miiles, after being in service 35 months. The rear tires are almost down to the tread bars. This is probably good life for original equipment Michelin tires.

We just went in for another "A" service, and the advisor pointed out that the tires needed replacement.

Where would be the best place to buy tires for this little wagon? The price my wife was quoted by the dealer seemed very high. I also had a very bad experience with buying tires at a Cadillac dealer one time. We are Costco members, and have bought tires there before.
