Best Repair Manual & Starter Replacement
Hello people. Well the title says it all. I unfortunately need to tackle a starter replacement as I believe my solenoid is failing. It starts sometimes, but just a single faint click other times. It may start fine several times, then just not start the next try. Very random. Searching here yielded no results for me. I am looking to find assistance online or to buy a proper repair manuel. Can anyone point me to a web site with this info? What do you guys suggest for a decent manuel?
Now while I do almost all of my own repairs on everything I own thats mechanical, this car is a ball of fun to work on to say the least. I have not even located the starter motor on this thing! LOL
Anyone here replace their own starter in a V6 C240 4Matic?

Any links guys? I went to MBUSA and they list a disc that is not windows 7 or 64 bit compatible which I would need. I see some disc on e-bay but I do not know if they are any good.
Also, does anyone know which side of the engine the starter is on in a 2003 C240 4Matic?

For a C240 it is located on the right side of the block, you will have to remove the exhaust to get at it.
On a M271 engine it is on the left side and you will have to remove the steering gear coupler

Would you happen to know if it being a 4 Matic is going to make it more complicated? It recently had a transmission so I assume the exhaust bolts will be a little easier to remove.

really that is the disc i have. it was not the disc that was the issue it was some software that you install that had not been updated in years. i would love to know how you got it to work

doing normal things i could not get xp mode to work since it new the cd was virtual. i did not dig to deep into finding away around that. and it would still be 64bit xp right.

That's how I'm running it now. Did you install XP Mode and then Virtual PC?

Unfortunately I don't believe it's compatible with the
lesser versions of Windows 7. According to this chart on
Wikipedia, you have to have at least 7 pro.

The cost of the DVD manuals are 70 from 18004mercedes ?
I forget the ph # , but it's MBUSA.
I use it to run legacy apps.
It works!
If you use it, you need to install your 32 bit apps into the virtual machine.
So, in this case, disable autorun, so it doesn't try to open in win 7,
then open it from the XP virtual machine.
