To Chirp Or Not To Chirp. That is the question.

Do you people think that it would be good to change the alarm to Normandy setting so it would chirp as well as flash. Or do you think it's unecessary and bothersome especially in quiet neighborhoods. Anyone change theirs?

In my opion the chirp is pretty annoying, it doesn't deter anyone, it just wakes up neighbors and faminly when you are trying to be quiet. If I were you i would let it be but that just my 2 cents.

I "hate" the alarm chirping on some cars, especially upscale models like Lexus. I think it's "cheap" sounding like add-on alarms and such. The Benz flashes the lights which to me is sufficient. M-B takes a quiet approach to things and I like it. Do you really want it for your "convenience", or so others hear you arm/disarm? Think about it... (Of course, this is only my opinion!).

BTW Rev I was exaggerating in it's loudness, but some are loud for quiet neighborhoods.

I think the chirping is goofy. So 1980's, "look at me, my car has an ALARM!" I agree with Mark 100%, its cheap sounding to have a car alarm chirp in the 21st century.
IMO, some just like to call attention to themselves. Kid's stuff.
You don't need to have a chirp to tell you if the car is locked or not. You can look at the door locks to see that! And, if you are not sure if its locked, just push the "door lock" button on the remote again. You also already get visual confirmation with the lights, unless you are blind, that is just as good as the noise.

i was thinking of changing mine to chirp simply because sometimes i forget if i locked the car.. I have found my car totally unlocked a few times and that's what made me think that if there was a chirp, i would pay more attention to it.
i wish it was like in the new civics. the first time you lock. the light flashes but if you press lock again, the horn sounds just a bit to let you know it's locked.

When i go to the dealer to get it enabled, i will try it there. If I dont like it i will not have them enable it. My dealer said that they will not charge to do it, as long as there is other work being done to the car.

I've never heard a new MB chirp before, but I if I wanted an audio alert, the alarm on the 5 series bimmers sounds nice...more of a subtle whistle, rathering than a piercing chirp. Using the horn like the VW's are the most annoying!

I agree with Mark. IMO, there is no need to draw attention to an already-attention-getter vehicle. I don't see how the visual cues that the car is locked doesn't suffice. Besides, there is no harm in hitting the lock button again to make sure.
