Foot Brake Ratchet replacement
Hi Guys
Does anyone know how to replace the ratchet on the foot brake (hand brake). How difficult is it?
Mine does not make the clicking sound anymore.
I have a 2001 W203 C180
Thanks

I doubt that the rachet needs replacement. At worst a spring. It's not difficult to access. I suggest you lubricate everything before taking it apart. This should include the cable transfer bar under the rear seat center hatch.

Is it part no 60 in the diagram that breaks on early cars? If so that is a very easy replacement. You certainly dont have to replace the assembly.

Hmmm, this happenned to me a while ago (lost the rachet sound but the foot brake still works). Easy replacement? I'll have to stick my head under the dash when I get home tonight... +1 on thanks for letting us know the resolution and how you fixed it!

The reason why i replaced the ratchet was to give me an indication of how deep i should press the parking brake. The clicks give me an indication of that

I lost the clicking sound on my parking brake as well, but not sure if any parts are actually broken. I had a mechanic adjust the release tension of the brake, and wonder if he just did not put everything back together properly The black pin #70 is still in place, and the white round plastic piece #60 does not appear broken to me. I tried but could not figure out exactly how to push it back into place... Can anyone tell if #60 is broken or not by the pictures?

Hi,
Would really appreciate any idea of the part number of item 60 in @Glyn M Ruck 's post way back on 9.2.2011 please! I'm having some issues with the handbrake not locking - gradually eliminating issues and part 60 is definitely worn.
Thanks,
Nikolas

Thanks very much Russell! I think this leads to two questions from me, again any help appreciated!
- Would still be good to get the clicking, in which case it would still be really good to understand if that part is orderable separately.
- If item 60 is not the cause of the handbrake not engaging, what could be causing this? The mechanism under the rear seat works fine, the pedal simply does not 'stick'. Would it be likely that the complete pedal assembly needs replacing?

Yes you can order it separately. Can't recall that I have had a mechanism fail. But what you must check is that the release cable has enough freeway at the mechanism otherwise it will not hold

Thanks for this
Seems my old links on MB parts catalog is no longer working
I need part 210 the spring is broken. Do you know the part number?
Do you have a working parts catalog lookup? I could find all the cables and pedal but not the part under the rear seats that splits the cable into left and right rear.
thanks
