Tommy, if you mess with the screen while the key is on, you may get an SRS.
It can be cleared with Carsoft 7.4.
My old XP laptop died, now I'm wondering what to do, don't think I can get it to run on Win 7.
Still need to send mine back to.
Any word from our friends in Italy, Trey?

Hmmm - that may be it, but not sure. I was monkeying with everything at some point after I got the first bunch of problems with the new screen.

What's Carsoft 7.4, other than the update to Carsoft 7.3?

Well I have been talking back and forth with the lady I bought them from I think she is getting me some fix pdf. Once I see what the heck she is talking about we will go from there since I doubt it is an easy fix that is not what the Chinese one needed done. And I want to test the other screens in my car as well just to be sure they are defective.

I really doubt the screen caused the SRS error in testing the one I have gotten back I was doing everything imaginable to see if it would work and got no errors only the clock reset so unless a cable got damaged or something I figure it is something else.

Not the screen.
The instrument panel is a key part of the CANBUS.
If you remove the connector, while the power is on, or vice versa, you may throw an SRS code.
Nothing to do with the screen.
I got an SRS code this way, when I removed it to put in the AMG style surround.

Umm, well it more feature rich than a OBD reader, and less feature rich than
a SDS, somewhere in the middle, can be had for about $100
but you have to get it work with your computer, needs a serial port, and
it doesn't appear to work with Win 7.
Essentially it's a chinese knock off, with pirated software,
and some uh, I say some people on the forum have been known to use.
Do a search here, and over on benzworld, especially in the R170 forum, there's a good thread.
It helps if you have an extra old laptop laying around.

Oh, and yes, it will clear the SRS error from our cars like up to 2004.
Hell, you can turn off the airbags with it too.
Don''t know why you'd want to, but i thought about it, in terms of weight reduction, and
removing the rear seat completely, but just a thought.

It's pretty cool, but half the time, you can't figure out what the codes mean.

Oh, well - the car's going in in an hour - they can sort it out. The SRS malfunction did come on about 4 months ago for about 3 days, then went away, so it could be the normal Benz thing instead - sensor to detect whether there's a problem could be defective, like several of my other sensors have been over the years.

Trey - the screen should be to you tomorrow.

Well I never had the key in when I was working on mine. I just had the door open and used the door contact switch to turn the screen on for a few seconds. But I did unplug the cluster while doing that but I guess that is why I didn't have any issues. I would never have the key in while messing with the cluster too risky.

Oh and Tommy I guess it is too late but if you drove to Virginia I would reset the code lol

Looks like mine is still lost in transit.
Will try to have an update on whether or not it is defective as soon as it arrives.

Bummed - another bad screen...

I'll post pics up a little later today, but I got mine in last night and one of the rows is bad (the one that goes across the 'N' in the gear selector, and top of mileage). I tried installing and re-installing several times, including swapping out with the original screen - definitely a problem with the new screen.

Any word back from the vendor Trey? Are we stuck with these defective units?

PS - Absolutely NO bad on you Trey!!! Still very much appreciate you going thru the trouble to do this for us!

I'm picking up my car after work, and the SRS malfunction was fixed, so it definitely was not related at all to the display screen, other than the fact that I probably jostled the bad wiring harness while screwing around with swapping out the screen. At least that's my guess on the issue.

Too bad to see such a hit or miss on these screens fixing the issue.

We still don't blame you, Trey.

Mine is still going good after a week in the car, keeping my fingers crossed. Just for safe measure I dug my old screen out of the trash. Still having radio issues but I don't know if they are related but they didn't start until I replaced the screen.

We don't? Who says? I'm flyin' out there to kick some ****....ha.
Still haven't mailed mine back yet.
Are they going to replace them?
Or are they going to say we're not 'qualified' for this sort of thing?
I have an electronic technician cert from when I was like 18, so I would say I am qualified. ha.

What is the company saying we need to do?

Just heard back today that sadly I can't get a refund but can get them replaced but need to get them shipped to Italy fast so anyone with a bad one please get them in the mail asap.
Now I know a few of you wanted refunds but I will eat them if you still want your money back. I figure get replacements and throw them on ebay.

I did notice something strange do we have anyone here that has a coupe that got theirs to work? I know two out of the original 3 were coupes. And the third I have a felling was just a handling issue that damaged the cable.

mtnman82 get us some pics I do know mine has a faint line that is around there I think it is just how it is

Replacement is absolutely AOK with me. Not sure of your address - could you pm me please? Pics below - 2 of the new screen showing the line out and one of the old. Interesting how the clock resets itself when doing this - there must be a RTC in the electronics assy.

Trey, I can confirm that the screen DOES in fact work on a Coupe. I am experiencing the same black row problem like you with the burnt out row of LEDs, however, the LCD screen itself works flawlessly.

I'm toast. No go on mine.

I appreciate the effort put into this. I don't blame Trey, and certainly don't want you paying out of your pocket on this.

mine arrived in Sarasota but will not get it home (Toronto) until May. After reading some of the threads makes me worried that the new screen is as reliable as an Italian car. For the past couple of weeks my old screen was working flawlessly that is up until today when I parked my car facing the sun. It has been a very warm March in Toronto and with it being 26*c today (unusual) the majority of my LCD was faded out due to the heat in the car. I just hope my screen will be fine. Hopefully the company has a decent warranty for the screens as I will not get it installed for at least 6 weeks
