Group Buy for LCD? $66 for those with heat related fading.

With summer approaching, I'm planning on replacing my LCD display, due to the heat related fading that so many of us seem to have experienced. From the other threads, it appears that the only reliable source for a replacement part is though minitools in Italy. See http://www.mte.net/lcd-display-mercedes-w203.

The price for a single LCD is 80 euros, plus 30 euros shipping, or 110 euros total, which as of today equates to $146.68. According to the pricing shown in their February 2012 catalog, an order of 10 or more pieces qualifies for pricing of 50 euros per unit and would also qualify for free shipping to the United States. $66.22 sure beats $146.68 and seems like the perfect scenario for a group buy.

I'm in for one unit, so are there nine others out there that need one of these?

update..we're at 10! There's not necessarily a cutoff at 10, that's just where the bulk discount kicks in. I'll let samaritrey make the call as to how many he wants to order. Perhaps have a cutoff date for receiving funds? I suggest you PM samaritrey for info on how he would like to receive the $$. Thanks again for handling this samaritrey!

Samaritrey has graciously volunteered to be our buyer/shipper and I think its probably a good idea to prepay him before he orders.

Regarding the polarization, I have no idea if that issue still exists. I have the same problem on the radio display of my BMW E91. Disappears when wearing polarized sunglasses. I seem to recall a trick in one of the BMW forums where you could put a thin sheet of polarized plastic over the radio face (with polarization running perpendicular to the existing lens) and it would cure the problem. Edit....found it: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=176836

Here's another thread discussing the LCD from this company: https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...-supplier.html

I will say that I figure they will ship them all to one person then that person would have to reship them to us individually.

I'm in possibly too. If I was in, I wouldn't have a problem reshipping. I have a Fedex account and I regularly ship parcels Both nationwide and internationally.

Does anyone have a DIY for this.

I'm in for sure(5). USPS Priority Mail small flat rate box is $4.95 and a bit cheaper if you buy online.

Okay, I'm in. Being the parts shipper in CONUS TBD.

Looks really easy. I have some minor, and I mean really minor scratches on my plastic cover. Anyone have any tips on what to use to get them out?

Hold up. There’s already a class action suit in pretrial discovery.

Yeah Pretrial discovery that will so go somewhere. Sadly the guy is MIA and we have not heard from him in what a year now.
lol
I would help out the forum if no one else volunteers sorry nilknarf but we just don't want to get screwed lol . That said one of the biggest issues with group buys is someone backing out and I really don't fell like getting stuck with an extra screen nor does anyone else I am sure. so I would say a deposit or something would be reasonable if not full amount up front. If I am off my rocker thats fine but Thats how I would do it. I do also remember that this company has a issue with the polarization being wrong so if you wear polarized sunglasses you can't see the screen or something like that.

I agree, and again, no offense nilknarf, as you said, it would be better to have someone that has a reputation around here to handle this, and Trey has been around for a while. I live close to him and can actually help him ship them out if he wants. I get a discount on UPS through work that I can use to knock a little of the cost of shipping for everyone.

I'll have to take a pic and post it, but it's only like mid-70's here and my display disappears around the edge now (worse than last year). The warmer it gets, the more disappears. Kira's is actually readable (did you ever replace yours Kira?). And this is a replacement from the dealer after ~4years.

I'm going to save my origonal screen in case anything ever does come with a replacement from MB. This definitely seems like something that should have been recalled or repplaced (although it's really not a safety thing, but...).

Also, I need to confirm this is the same display as in my '03???

Oh, and I have no problem pre-paying.

I'd fix mine if I wasn't selling the car in the winter

Mine fades so bad I cannot make out the top or bottom row at ~25C.
