If it is CPS sfter letting the car cool off it would usually start.
My car seems comletely random - it would restart for no apparent reason.
It has now been starting for about a week and no parts were replaced.

Your CPS may have quit completely - if the car is still cranking OK I would not replace the battery - you could try to recharge it or have it checked by someone.

Sorry about the last post - I have overlooked the fact that you have changed the CPS already, therefore it is very unlikely that it is the problem.

My wife's car engine light came on...took it to Autozone and pulled out a code P0335.....defective CPS. Now I need help on finding the Crankshaft Position Sensor....where is it located? I looked and looked ...is it at the back of left side of engine headcover. But it's not there...now I'm confused and have a headache...I just can't find the damn thing. Please help me. Thanks

What engine do you have?

If it's the V6 then the CPS is on the rear flange behind the left-side (facing from the driver's seat) cylinder head. It's pretty much in the center facing down, towards the flywheel.

So it's hidden...under those 1 inch black rubber hoses? Do you have to take them out? I guess I'm gonna have to. I just can't see the damn thing and can't put my hand to feel for it...the space were too tight. Anyway,

yeah.. i couldn't find it at first visually, so i had to touch around. it helps if you have the CPS in hand, so you can visually/feel the top of it.

So, does MB use the same one for all engines?
I see it appears to be the same here...
http://www.autohausaz.com/search/pro...ition%20Sensor

I was considering purchasing to keep one on hand, just in case.

Is this the right one?

Anyone have a pn for a M111 engine?

Doesn't know if this helps at all, but the m112 had a vin specific part. There were quite a few parts so in the end I went to the dealership and they gave me the correct part.

Anyone have the pn from MB they were given by the dealership?

I'll look mine up and compare.
I'd rather keep one on hand in the car for 40 bucks, a good deal, than wait for it to break.
But not much good it will do if I buy the wrong part and don't use try to use it for a long time.

So, Ohlord, I'm not sure what car you were buying this for,
but it does turn out that the same sensor(s) is used for numerous models.

I looked up my car, + I looked up a 2003 C320 VIN off ebay, and got the same pn's for the sensor.

Crankshaft Position Sensor-
A0031532728
A0031532828
Also, here's the bolt and washer (good thing to have if you drop it and lose it)
N000912006066- Bolt for sensor M6x15
Washer- N000125006449

Also, here's the pn for the camshaft position sensor- (for the M111, not sure about other engines)
A0041531328

There are 2 pn's listed,
Here's what it looks like in the epc. I'm confused by the
"Select all optional with PN's"
It appears they are 2 different pn's but they are interchangeable?
Anyone know how to interpret this?
Is only one pn correct or are they interchangeable?

The C320 looks exactly the same as far as the pn listing.

When you look up these pn's seperately they come up for a whole slew of engines and configurations.

Either MB part # comes up with the Bosch 0261210170 pn on
the Autohauz Arizona site.

Anyone every have trouble with the camshaft sensor?

I agree. I'm going to do exactly that! Probably sell the car with a spare CPS - sods law - with a spare on board it will never fail & that's OK

Currently I keep a spare coil pack in the car, along with tools, and an ODB scanner. Add a sensor to that....
If the car died, I'd stand a chance of doing a roadside fix. I could at least try the CPS before paying a fortune to a mechanic.

UPDATE- Ordered! Free shipping over 50 bucks so I threw in 2 oil filters for 6 bucks each.

I hate spending money for stuff I may never use, but....down the road I can off it in the classified if need be. It'll save me 10 x it's cost if it ever fails, and I'm able to do it on the fly.

Can someone take a picture of the CPS, showing the connector, and also measure the distance from the place it contacts the engine to the end of the sensor? (On a M111 engine)

I purchased a sensor from Autohaus AZ to keep in the car, won't need it for a while, so just want to make sure it's the correct part, since it's a Bosch pn
0 261 210 170.

Thanks for your updates, now let me tell you about mine. I'm trying to prove to my husband that I can change this thing. Boy this is a challenge. I finially found it (the sensor)and it was at the bottom of the ocean so it seemed. Now, I cant get that damn screw off. I'm using a star socket but it doesnt seem like the right size. When I looked at the screw through a dental mirror it looked very small, do you know the size. I'm afraid to take alot of hoses and stuff off since I may not be able to put them back. The amount of space to work in this c240 is a joke. I'm determined not to tow this car to the stealer, I want to buy a lovely David Yurman necklace insted.

Is this a trick girl question? I don't know the number but move up or down in the range until you find the right one. STFF and probably you can find the exact size.

Good idea since that's unnecessary. Be patient. Once you get the right socket and correct extension(s)/swivel joint to reach the bolt head then you're almost there.

Most worthy cause. I do it because I'm too cheap, egotistical, and I don't like to waste the time taking/talking/waiting/paying/picking up the car to let someone else do anything that I can do equally or better and with a limited amount of fuss. And I don't even want a necklace.
