Finished the job! Thank God! I took a screw off a brace which was holding one of the hoses. It was downhill after that, since I was then able to reach in a touch the device. Now I'm getting a fault reading on the dash which says something about a light sensor and to visit the stealer. I think not...on to another thread...thank you everyone!

light sensor, visit shop. i looked around a little and people indicated different things, new battery, sensor not working because the car was in the garage, and some said it went away by itself.

It might be the result of a stored code.

Error code.

Some of the messages will go away with x time, x restarts, x mileage, etc. Don't worry about it if it goes away. The code will stay in the memory until cleared.

ok. 2002 C32. 86K miles. CPS sensor never replaced.......

last friday, i noticed that my idler pulleys/bearings are going bad. i didnt drive much during the weekend. sunday and monday of this week, i noticed that my car is a little sluggish to turn over. it takes a little longer but still does.

i have not had any problems with the motor cutting out during driving nor felt like it was going to stall. however, i have never replaced the CPS sensor and my car is at 86K.

battery voltage tonight during driving was at 13 or so volts. got home and turned off car, voltage was at 12.4. Periodically checked voltage every 20 minutes or so and noticed voltage dropped to the 12.1 - 12.3 range then 11.9-12.1 then 11.7-11.9ish (12 sometimes). not sure what normal voltage is on battery. all these periodic checks were done with key in the position just prior to turning on motor.

seat modules replaced. no i don't have an ammeter or else i would hook it up to see if there is a current draw.

1) does this sound like a CPS sensor issue regardless of not having the same effects but not being replaced in 86K?
2) could this for some crazy reason be because my pulleys are a little more resistant to turn right now because the bearings are going out? or is it a mere coincidence?
3) or is it likely i have a current draw, taking into consideration what my battery voltage numbers are (again,i do not have an ammeter available at the moment)

With credit to mleskovar.

Battery voltage = 12.7 volts at 100% charge, 12.24 volts at 50% charge, and 11.89 volts at 0% charge measured across the battery with everything off. Alternator voltage is measured across the battery with the engine running and should be minimum 13.5 volts.

I think you have a shot battery. Take it to a battery shop & have it load tested. How old is it. Your alternator might be getting lazy

You must check for current draw

Don't think you have a CPS issue.

battery was purchased 04/03/2007

this morning, when key was in position prior to turning on the motor, voltage was reading 11.5-11.6. Then when key was put to initial position (just inserting the key) voltage jumped to 11.9-12.0 before the ECU stopped sending info to my OBDII gauge/reader.

lol. so much for the 12 months. could this be alternator related too? you mentioned my alternator might be getting lazy. how can i check that?

the only thing is i still think i might have a current draw but obviously cant confirm that without an ammeter lol

With the motor running you should be getting about 13.5V across the battery terminals.

Sure you can, it just takes more time. Measure the voltage at the battery after the motor has been running enough to charge it. Then measure it at hour intervals (without restarting or running motor) and see if it stabilizes or is dropping. FYI....the original part number parts for the seat modules are no good and will eventually fail even though replaced with new ones. I went through two sets before bypassing the 0 key position ground to fix the problem for good.

MB batteries suck... I had to replace mine several times under warranty and after. The cells always go bad or short out. Switch to the red top Optima! way more reliable and lighter too.

hmm. good to know. i will test it out later. like i said, it did drop over night from a 12ish range into the 11-ish range which i find a bit disconcerting

yah, the seat modules supposedly were replaced by the new updated ones for the W211 ( i think ) that don't have that problem. if this it he problem again, i will definitely be doing the cheap/easy fix DIY by TemijinX2. is that what you are referring to with your bypass thing?

yah it is the OEM battery. i've gone through like 4 of them since 02 being in the desert of AZ AND having to replace seat modules a couple times. Only thing about the Optima that worries me is I read somewhere that if the car isnt driven almost everyday, they may lose charge more quickly or something? i'm an idiot with batteries. something about them being weaker i think, but i do like the idea of light weight. i know the MB battery weighs like 40lbs lol

Everyone I know with an OE 100AH battery gets at least 7 years out of it. Mine has gone 6 & is still fine.

C320
Hello Members,
I have a 02 C320 that started, but will not start back up. It spins over, but no ignition.
I had just driven it 30 minutes prior. I backed into my driveway; parked it in an incline and now it doesn't start. Recently, replaced MAF, Intake Hose, EGR Sensor, cleaned EGR tube, changed all visible vacume tubes. Please Help.... Tanks

Firstly check everything you have touched. Always suspect No 1.

Please get an OBDII/CAN scanner & check for fault codes - Stops a lot of guessing. You might have a dead CPS.

Use genuine OE Bosch plugs

I haven't done it yet. Still waiting for the CPS to come in the mail. I uploaded the instructions from WIS on how to replace the CPS in the previous post. I got 2004 C230 1.8L Compressor.

Matt - I agree - you figure the last year for the W203, the kinks would have been figured out. I had Crankshaft and Camshaft sensors replaced.
