2008 c350 SG - 2004 c240 Wagon BS
All I remember is, it was 110* outside in the middle of July and I don't have any inverted Torx sockets.

I got so pissed at the C240 that I went out and bought a new '08 C350.

Then I got the 240 running again and now I have both.

lmao!

FINALLY DONE with this ****ING PROBLEM!

SCREW THE DEALERSHIP! they wanted a little north of 400 to change the stupid sensor, but i had an mom and pops shop change it for 25$, minus the part, which was about 130. so 25+130 = 155 total, and if you want, plati german service charged me 95 for a diagnosis, even though i toild them it was the CPS. so screw them too! and 20$ for the towing!

oh, don't know if this is true, but to me, after the new CPS, my car seems to be running a little smoother. my idle isn't as rough as it was before, but i maybe imagining things. 01-02's should definitely change their CPS; it's a major pain to be stranded outta nowhere

blah you should've done it yourself..you get that extra satisfaction of knowing you fixed something with your hands... But $25 is a pretty good deal.

I still find it funny, that most people think its insane to charge for diagnosing except when its on a german car. I know none of the japanese brand dealerships charge for diagnosing.

I felt the same way when i fixed my seat control module for $5 instead of paying $500 from the stealership.

Congrats on the fix.

haha, well i didn't have that star/torx socket, it was driving me mad. should've taken 10 minutes like they did, instead of the 3+ hours i spent on top of my engine, LOL. i already knew the problem, yet they had to DIAGNOSE my entire car. waste of my morning, and time, as i had to get my cr towed back too. wack! so when we gon have that tech day?

With the massive amount of on road testing the W204 has seen compared with the 203 I hope many of these issues are sorted.

yup.

some things i noticed off the bat was smoother engine idle, along with higher MPG. what i would usually get for a 50 mile commute from Riverside to San Gabriel has been up by 3-4 mpg.. weird i know, but it's true. drove the same way before i fixed CPS was 22-24 mpg on cruise control at 75-80; now i can reach 25mpg+ easy. a lot smoother and the best part is the ease of mind!

it would be nice for us California folks to know the name & location of this "mom & pops shop".
Could help out a few $$$-starved folks !

glad to hear the car is back up & running smooth !

well i just took it to some random shop on San Gabriel Blvd. i believe that any shop can do it, as long as you tell them exactly what you want done. i already took my airbox/tubing off and knew where the CPS was, but i couldn't remove the cps because i didn't have good enough tools to reach that star screw. so i took my car to the shop, showed them the location, and then told them all they had to do was remove the screw.

honestly, i don't even remember the shop's name, LOL.

I'm speculating here so don't shoot me down in flames

The ECU, I presume? - takes TDC or whatever from the CPS. If the CPS is churning out spurious or inaccurate data as it approaches failure then the ECU is going to fire the engine slightly off target & lead to higher fuel consumption & erratic idle?

If this is so then your findings are entirely credible.

Anybody know how to install the crank position sensor

Hi, does anybody know how to install the cps on a 2003 c230 kompressor sedan. I can only feel it and can not put the tool on it because the space between the fire wall and the back of the engine is to tight for my hand to fit. Please any suggestions and advise would greatly appreciate.

you probably need to removed something around the area so that you have enough space to get your hand and tool in, its a little tight but that's what i did and i got iit done. Notice : once you get the old cps out and replace a new one in its going to be a little hard to push the new cps in.

Do you remove the fluid hose? How do you fit the tool on it and you work from the top of the car or underneath?

I had mine done few months ago. No problem since but got me all paranoid now since my car quit on me in the middle of the road in rush hour traffic....

Also my mechanic bent the heat shield while he was working on it and now my steering 'snag' when I turn. I may have to take the whole shield out sometime.

Thanks for the advises. I installed my cps this afternoon with out moving the fluid hose. It took me about 10 minutes to take the part off. I did removed the lower part of the connector tube after MAF and I am able to get hand in the little space. My car have the same problem. The car still able to crank but the engine turned for about 2 second and died.

Anybody have any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

My car (M271) has a similar problem when it happens the car turns over few seconds runs and then stalls. CPS was replaced and did not solve the problem.
The CPS problem is typically after the car has been running and is up to temperature - my car does it usually when cold.
